@Victor - Yes, I can see funk; it also has a 'farmy' quality to it.

I'd say the bottle of 10 OB I had was balanced in the way, say, a Springbank or Caol Ila is. Not rounded or 'smooth' but nothing, especially the peat, overly dominated. Maybe I got a good bottle, but the IB 6 year old was also good, if less complex.

I tried the 18 last year and while it was good, I didn't think it mixed with the sherry notes as well as some other peaty whiskys I've had.

Ledaig has enjoyed something of a fan boy following on another whisky site I frequent. It's clearly not a favourite in everybody's book but I'm looking forward to its idiosyncracies (including that farm yard funk). I've also enjoy trying peated stuff from locations other than Islay.

@Robert99, well it's certainly a different tone over there! More wide-open, more anonymous, sometimes more sarcastic. But lots of good commentary, I'd say.

There are also a lot of different "sub-pages" or whatever to sift through. Some are garbage. The Scotch one is the only one I typically spend any time with.

I picked up my Redbreast Lustau and got sucked in by a St Paddy’s display...and I also purchased a bottle of Jameson Black Barrel. It’s March 5, and I’ve bought 3 bottles. No more until April!!!

My 2018 count is still ZERO

I am planning a trip though, so if I can find some premium rum at a good price I may "crack the seal"

Just got back from a weekend in New Hampshire. Picked up a Macallan 12 Sherry Oak, Caol Ila 12 and Lagavulin 16. Purchased the Lagavulin before crossing the boarder into the US @ the Canadian duty free at a great price.

@MadSingleMalt My complain about Reddit has all to do with the format. It was also intended as a compliment to the work of Jean-Luc.

@OdysseusUnbound - I bet it's felt good to 'scratch the itch' though, as it were!? wink

I made no promises but did a count up of purchases this year so far: I've bought 6 and had 5 bottles as gifts. That's about half of what I'd go through in a year, give or take!

A change in jobs (part time so less ££) means I really shouldn't be buying any more until the end of the year. We'll see ...

A bottle of standard Jamesons. Why? it was reduced to £17 (that's almost Grant's price), Paddy's day looms and my loose change jar was full so i cashed it in and paid for the Irish with it.

Feels like a freeby smiley

Except for a couple of bottles of 12 YO Cask Strength Rye, I had not considered any 2018 purchases, until now. Six weeks ago a friend of mine sent me a message from Calgary, the whisky capital of Canada, asking if I had any pick ups to be made. He would come down from the mountains after a month and a half of skiing, make the pick up and head back home. I gave him a list of six expressions and indicated that I would take as many as three bottles, including the same one three times if necessary. I waited for six weeks hoping that my order would get filled....it did!

@paddockjudge Old Pulteney 17; gold. If it truly is about to go the way of the Dodo, we should all be grabbing it while we can. Can’t help noticing some very tasty items on your shelves too. yum

This was picked up for me today from the Bayview LCBO for $102.10. Obviously an error as it is not even listed online yet. Looks like someone entered a 1 instead of a 2. So this is a heads up for my fellow Ontario Connsor's

@Astroke wow. That’s crazy. There’s no way it should be listed for that. I got a bottle in Scotland Very oily mouthfeel. Subtle peat. Enjoy!

Just realized this is unpeated cask strength. That price is nuts.

@Astroke Lucky!!! I looked it up and can’t find it anywhere. And since I’m not in the center of the Universe, there’s zero chance of finding one. Oh well, it allows me to stick to my “no more whisky purchases until April” commitment.

@Astroke, Could you please tell the store details and do they have any more in stock?

Astroke replied

@DevD the store was Bayiew and Lawrence from what I understand. There were 11 bottles on the shelf and my buddy's friend took them all. He knew about these as he has a friend that works at the LCBO and knew where these were. I don't know anymore than that but I was offered 1 bottle at the retail price and I accepted without question. I expect these will be released soon enough province wide. Let's hope they are available online and they get snapped up at this fantastic price.

This is how the mistake occurred regarding Caol Ila 18 Unpeated Cask Strength.

liquery.com/602011-Caol-Ila-18-Years-Old-I…

This site tells you almost every spirit that the LCBO has carried in the last 8-10 years. When the new Caol Ila 18 unpeated showed up and was entered into the system it was immediately listed at the last price in the system with the description Caol Ila 18.

@Astroke their inventory listings seem to be out of wack. FYI for anyone interested. I was in the Weston Rd and Hwy. 7 area and the main store has Weller 107 in stock on the shelves. One listed on their app in Oakville. Their IT inventory guy must be on vacation.
