Williams. 5 Bottles. Why

While this was just one of several brands put on sale by my local drug store chain (Shopper’s if anyone is interested - I don’t know if it is chain-wide), this is the only one at 80% ABV. I have an open bottle and am “enjoying it”.

Some of the stuff out there is 60-62% which is ok but not great. At a total price of $22.59 tax in, this is worth stocking up on. One does not know when a second wave will hit.

@Nozinan At +/- $4.50/bottle a good and wise investment.

@Nozinan , do you find hand-warming to benefit this higher-proof expression?

@paddockjudge I haven’t tried warming, but hand-rubbing definitely gets results.

@Nozinan Well, I guess Ralfy would be pleased to review if it was natural color (which it looks like it is), non-chilled filtered (which I assume it is), and had an age statement. Hmmm.

Nevertheless, it looks like a good buy.

@ajjarrett 50 parts ginger ale, 1 part Williams, twist of lemon: a last resort cocktail?

I just got a new bottling of Arran 18 Year Old. I’m a fan of their stuff; it’s bottled at 46% abv, natural colour and not chill-filtered. Oh, and I also got this one for really, really, really cheap.

What? Details please @OdysseusUnbound. This is starting to sound like the steal of a deal of the century.

@BlueNote a good bit of dumb luck really. Kind of a “once in awhile” gamble that just happened to pay off. smiley

@Astroke Yessum. I don’t play them very often, so it’s kind of fun when I win.

@OdysseusUnbound Less than $20? That should go under steal of a Deal, and almost mandatory sharing..... ;)

@OdysseusUnbound

@Nozinan I believe my cost was $21....and once the bottle is opened, there will be samples freely distributed to the kind and generous I’m fortunate enough to encounter irl.

@OdysseusUnbound Is it the one in the new style bottle? If it is anything like the previous version I know you're going to like it. Good score.

@OdysseusUnbound that is a good sherried Scotch IMO. I thought I got a deal at $106 at my door.

@OdysseusUnbound

@Astroke Given that you didn’t have to rely on blind luck, I’d say that is a pretty good deal.

@OdysseusUnbound - that is literally a steal! Nice one +1

I just broke my buying 'silence' 4 months early on a bottle of Sirius 31; but this will count as my Xmas present to myself! Did anyone else see that tumbleweed just go by?!? grin

Just over £100 (it was on sale for £75 a while back and, yes, I'm very much regretting my previous reticence) for a 31 year old blend that likely contains Clynelish and possibly Balblair, and gets rave reviews across the board, was too tempting.

From I.B.s North Star and was distilled no later than 1988 - I have always wanted to try some 80s distillate as well so ...

As mentioned in another thread today I picked up a 'cheaper' bottle of unpeated, 100% ex-bourbon cask, NCF, no added colour, 46.3% ABV whisky AKA Deanston 12. This should help slow down the rate at which I'm getting through my other bottles!

Lot 40 CS from Master of malt in the UK. Limited to 1 per customer so they are clearly expecting them to run out fast as they always do.

@BlueNote you're right there about being underrated. I can buy it off the shelf for $75 NZD (= $50 USD / $65 CAD / 37 GPD) which makes it an attractive proposition. I just had a cheeky first dram while I cooked dinner and I'm impressed already. Amazing the similarities to Tobermory 10 (slight fusty/farmy quality).

@conorrob what year release is the Lot 40 CS? If it's 2017 or 2018 I would recommend getting as many as you and you friends can snag. The 2019 release is not, in my opinion, as tasty.

@Nozinan ... 2019 damnit !!! @Victor did tell me recently it was no good ... but I needed something to compare the JP Dissertation he recommended me... so you can see my predicament ! I’m on a journey of discovery with Canadian whiskey right now (a medium I have previously ignored)
