Yesterday I made it home from the store with a real winner (I hope). A youngish single cask from Laphroaig finished on Sherry. It's a ''single cask exclusive'' from the creative whisky company. Cask reference KD001

LCBO bourbon lottery results are available if you log in to your account, even though the emails have not gone out yet.

I was lucky enough to win a Weller Antique 107, and a BTAC William Larue Weller 2016. My wife also won a Weller 12yr, so looks like we will be having a Weller tasting at some point in the future!

Turns out maybe I didn't win these. LCBO site now shows just the Weller Antique 107, no BTAC Weller, and my wifes account shows nothing.

Leave it to the LCBO to mess up something like this. Wonder if it's even worth my time to send them the screen shot of the original quantities and complain. Probably just tell me to piss off I would imagine.

The what: Two bottles of Gooderham & Worts

The why: Because it's on sale at the LCBO, as mentioned in the "Steal of a deal" discussion. This is a favourite of mine and I figured I'd stock up a little while the price was this attractive.

@mscottydunc Yes, my GTS disappeared faster than my smile when it turned to 0 bottles. Still have another shot with the email whenever that may be.

@Astroke Looks like they are spitting out a bunch of backpedaling garbage on their twitter account. Appreciate the fact that we have a chance to buy these bottles from them at a reasonable price, but if you are going to mess around with your numbers before finalizing the allocation, at least hire someone technically advanced enough to understand how to do this behind closed doors and not where people can see it and get upset.

@mscottydunc what is the twitter account? I can't find it.

Ahhhh, found it.... looks like lots of unhappy people...

Turns out I only won the Weller 107, better than nothing, but the LCBO needs to get their shit together with this lottery next year. Do it behind the scenes so you don't piss people off.

I also just ended up with an OWA. My wife had a Weller 12 but it dissapeared. Happy to have another bottle but was really looking forward to the 12. I feel for the people that "scored big" only to loose it hours later. Will have to check out their Twitter account to see what people are saying.

I picked up a Pappy 15 through the LCBO lottery. Only 30 bottles for the whole province, I'm happily surprised....

@thecyclingyogi, congratulations! I imagine that you will be trading that Pappy Van Winkle 15 yo very soon, once you get some good offers. Should be worth 3 or 4 bottles of very good malt in Ontario.

My phantom GTS turned into an ER17, plus my daughter got an ORVW 10 (will replace my bottle I traded last year). Probably will look to trade the ER17 but very happy to get it.

It looks like between me and my family we won the rights to 3 bottles of old weller antique 107. I will collect them all, try one, and then decide what to do with the rest. At this price it's a no-brainer.

@Nozinan If you decide you don't like the first bottle, I will happily purchase the remaining two from you :)

Congrats to all you who came out of the LCBO fiasco with something! I am a huge fan of the OWA 107. For years it was my go to bourbon . . . until the craze became real. Now I am nursing my bottle from this fall (which is better than my last bottle) with one in reserve.

I just picked up a bottle of Old Grandad 114 for the bunker. Why? I am starting to feel that the rumors are real. It is still available where I am . . . I just have a sense it might disappear forever soon.

@Nock it's looking more and more like the end of the road for OGD 114. Thankfully I have 3 spares bunkered indefinitely in Seattle. I hope I get them before my supply here runs out. We rarely get a chance to try the OGD bonded in Canada but I found some in Calgary and while not quite as rich, it's a quality bourbon.

I expect the OWA 107 will not be much like the OGD 114 other than 3 letters and 3 numbers. I look forward to opening one in February... The three I and family won't he right to purchaseare all paid for and will make their ways to various stores before resting in my home. $35 for a high proof spirit is almost unheard of in Ontario. It's almost guaranteed to be worth it.

It looks like a lot of the 7000 people (or 1000 people who put in 7000 orders) are not exercising their options for some of the LCBO lottery items. Initially, I, my brother, and my aunt each won the rights to a single OWA 107, but today my cousin got one off the waiting list and so did a friend of mine in London.

I wonder, if they accept these, and given I accepted mine, do we lose our shot at a better one off the wait list?

Somehow I get the feeling the LCBO system is in no way organized enough...

Astroke replied

@Nozinan I know at least 20 people who put in for the lottery and all of them did not check off OWA because they (me included) did not want to be allocated that one over one of the rare bottles.

Nozinan replied

@Astroke Is that how it worked? But did they get a good bottle instead? We organized it so only some of us picked OWAs. The ones that picked only the three CS BTACs got nada.

I think each bottle is a separate draw, so if you won a OWA it wouldn't take anything away from your chances on another bottle.

@Nozinan I think you will like OWA, it's hard to want more for $35.

Nozinan replied

@Mancub I don't know, I paid $20 for my OGD 114, and I found it easy to want more...and more...and more....

Astroke replied

@Nozinan Not sure how it worked, but it seemed nobody wanted to take the chance that's all they would get. There were after all 1500 bottles of OWA available. I like many others had my wife and daughter enter as well and I asked them not to check off the OWA. I also left off the EH Taylor Small batch. The OWA may be a decent value as Cinnamon spice bombs go but it is not a lottery bottle.

@Mancub Not sure but I did not want to take a chance.

My wife was also allocated a bottle of the OWA this morning from the wait list. I can't help but think the LCBO included these, as well as the Weller 12 in the lottery so that they would have less people bitching and complaining about not getting anything like years past.
