@Nozinan - Yes, you are correct. Still, 57% can't be that far off?

I'm a bit of a pedant and would have corrected that if I'd noticed relaxed Must be getting lazy(er) . . .

I just bought a bottle of Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye. I always keep a low-cost bottle at my in-laws for sipping and I killed my Famous Grouse a few weeks ago. CRNH was on sale at the KGBO, so I figured “why not?” There are some here who can’t abide it, but I’ve always found it enjoyable, even if it’s incredibly variable.

@RianC @Nozinan Who knows which way the world would be turning were it not for pedantics. Someone has to keep the record straight.

@BlueNote Technically, it doesn't turn, it rotates. And I suspect it would do it just the same way without people like me...

I was at the LCBO picking up the Glenlivet 18 I ordered when it was $30 off and I grabbed a Forty Creek Barrel Select simply because it was $1 off and came with an ice ball mold. I need to stay away from the LCBO for awhile.

@OdysseusUnbound, Today I drove through the South End LCBO parking lot without stopping and visiting the store....twice. I did it twice! lol

A bottle was bought on my recommendation though not for me or by me.

My brother has a work colleague who is leaving or going away or something. Apparently likes whisky. He didn't know what kind. But he wanted to get him something good, not too expensive, and Canadian. And available (without ordering online...no time). I narrowed it down to Highwood 90/20, WIser's Dissertation or Legacy. Eventually he settled on Legacy.

Bowmore 12 has been reduced from £37 - £30 and now I see it's at £25 at the supermarket I drive past on the way home from work . . .

It's also Friday tomorrow . . .

Should I just add it to my cabinet now? smirk

@Nozinan
Nozinan replied

@RianC If you like it, go for it. I would not take 37 GBP to put it in my cabinet...

@Nozinan - ha! A little birdy told me you were a real fan boy of that particular distillery stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes

Well, it gets mixed reviews for sure but I've been debating it at £30 all week and I think the £25 tag may have swung me.

I wouldn't be paying £37 for any 40% C-F and coloured whisky, mind.

@RianC I am not a fan of Bowmore 12, 15 or 18. I would need to try from a bottle of the same batch I was considering before I would ever consider buying one (things change...I have to be open-minded).

Bowmore Tempest (I've tried 2 batches), Laimrig (I've tried 2), Devil's cask (I tried one and have another) would all be welcome in my cabinet and in fact I hope to open a Tempest V, and serve some Laimrig IV, in 2 days.

@Nozinan Rumour has it (Serge) that the 18 is dramatically improved recently. Quite overpriced here though.

Maybe I’m just not as picky as @Nozinan but I’ve liked (not necessarily loved) every Bowmore I’ve tried (the 12 many times and 15 once or twice).

My retired neighbours spent a few days this summer hanging around my porch. I decided one day to offer him a drink. When I inquired about what he drank the reply was "rye". So I said "how about a bourbon?", ... "Ok". The bottle was low and coming to and end. He was quite surprised about how good it was. Over the summer, he would stop by and I would let him try a few different things such as Lot 40, Amrut and Nikka Tekatsuru. I got to hear some stories about his past work days delivering empty bottles to a few of the now gone local Toronto distillery plants. I'm pretty sure that his favourite was the Eagle Rare which I've bought as a Christmas present for him.

@BlueNote I said that many times, I don't like the blackcurrant buds note of Bowmore. Though I had a sample of the 18 that had only a light blackcurrant buds note and a big Hemp rope note that was fantastic and made me buy one bottle. I will let you guess with which note I end up with...

@OdysseusUnbound, the problem with Bowmore is the same problem Caol Ila has, only worse: It's tasty distillate colored and watered down to within an inch of its life. And they seem to choose the most mild-mannered barrels for the OBs, at least the entry-level ones. The IBs are universally better.

That said, I was surprised at how good the Bowmore 15 Darkest was when a member of my club shared the last half of his bottle. Certainly no world-better, but fresh & tasty.

@MadSingleMalt, about Bowmore 15 Darkest, yes!, so far I have only tasted the Dr. Jekyll version, and have yet to meet Mr. Hyde.

@RianC, let's hear word of your tasting your now famous bottle of Bowmore 12...when you are ready, of course.

Two sips into my Laga 8 and I'm smiling - widely - while I listen to Mull of Kintyre for the umpteenth time (well it's a Glen Campbell version now - I do like his draaawl!)

It's fruitier than I remember the sample I had being. It's still very closed though to be fair but the peat at the long finish is exquisite.

@RianC, uh-oh! I hope that you are not planning to taste the OB Bowmore 12 immediately after the Lagavulin 8 yo. Most people will probably find the Bowmore 12 lighter. The lower ABV certainly lowers taste density.

@Victor - heaven forbid! My plan is to have it as a lighter peated one for the summer.
