I didn't get around to writing a review while I still had the bottle, but I love this stuff so much that I wanted to put some thoughts down anyway. Yes, it is only 40% ABV, chill filtered and probably coloured so most people here will give it a pass, but I know what I like and this is it. The aroma is to die for: luscious grape and sweet vanilla over a slightly mossy bed of malt.

On the palate there is a light smokiness to balance the sweetness of the malt and sherry casks. Silky smooth and probably a little too light on account of the low ABV, but satisfying nonetheless. In a similar vein as Cragganmore 12 in terms of being smooth, fragrant and clean with that light touch of peat.

In Ontario this is also one of the most, if not the most, affordable 16 year old single malts currently available. Which isn't saying much, but it's nice to feel like you're not getting robbed once in a while.

I can well imagine.

I think I'll start doing reviews differently. Every whisky starts at 100 points. Subtract 1 point for each percentage ABV below 65. -5 for chill filtering. -10 for added colour. Score is halved each time the packaging mentions the word "smooth". +20 if it is peated. Half a point for every year of aging.

Tasting the whisky is, of course, optional.
