I find the Glendronach 18 YO "Allardice" to have a sweet profile. I haven't yet had the Aberlour 18 YO but have had the 16 YO.

As someone who has had both, I was impressed with the Aberlour initially but then it didn't stay good for long. I wasn't particularly impressed with the Glendronach 18. On the other hand, the Glendronach revival 15 was quite good.

It depends on what type of sherry fix your after. The Aberlour is a quite fresh and big on the Christmasy side of spice, whereas the Glendronach is bitter sweet with dark chocolate, espresso, prunes that kinda thing. Both great whiskies but for me the GlenDronach wins.

I'd pay a bit more and go for the GlenDronach 21 yo if you're after a sherry fix ;) That's my personal favourite. If you can get your hands on a bottle of the Ultimate Longmorn 1996 Cask strength I would forget the others!

@Adam80
Me too. As far as big sherried malts go, the Glendronach 21 YO "Parliament" is hard to beat for the price. I keep a couple of bottles of this handy at all times.

I'd have to opt for Glendronach 18........more character. I find the Aberlour 18 to be quite flat in comparison. The Aberlour needs a lot of time to open up. Not much character.

While I like the Aberlour I am a massive GlenDronach fan due to some of there single cask bottlings they have. While I may be a bit biased for me the glenDronach 18 yo is the one I'd choose. Though if you are a big fan of Aberlour try there a'bunadh cask strength small batch series. Great stuff.

OK folks, my next sherry-fix will be either of these, but having gone through all of the reviews on connosr I am still undecided. The general preference seems to be for the Aberlour, but the Glend'18 has excellent reviews over here in Europe and I'm left thinking that maybe the stuff that goes stateside is the issue...
Are they at all similar or is there a marked difference? Am concerned about the comments that the Aberlour went 'bitter' after a few months of opening.
