@Jean-Luc I was just opening this discussion! :) I've also read the news on whiskynotes' blog and it seems that it will be available in March for committee members and in June for all the others...now I wonder what this experiment will taste like and also how it is going to be priced...

I am super excited for the new release. I just hope it's not too expensive... which it probably is. If it's under 80$ here in AZ, I will definitely buy a bottle... (Don't judge me because I'm from Arizona).

@duffer.dk : I agree with your comment about the Ardbeg 10. I've tried a lot of other bottles from that distillery and the 10 Year is still my favorite. I'm still curious about the Alligator though.

Latest info - courtesy of Loch Fyne Whiskies blog (lfw.co.uk/whiskyblog/2011/…) is official retail release in September.
Committee bottling will come sooner but will it be 3000 or 24000 bottles. I'd err on the side of a limited production so to build up interest/demand for retail and push committee bottling price into stratosphere.

Was listening to a podcast on Whiskycast today which, having interviewed a chap who works for Ardbeg, suggested the Alligator was possibly for release in the next couple of months...
Looking forward to this. I like that they tend to go for interesting flavour experiments rather than relying on the age for the main hook.

Ardbeg has scheduled a tasting in Chicago for the new Alligator expression. I believe the date is April 16.

Looks like Ardbeg Alligator Committee bottling will be in June based on John Hansell's interview with Bill Lumsden (see p.ost.im/p/W5cxm). Also Son of Alligator coming next year ...

So Committee release went live yesterday for those of us lucky enough to be in countries where they ship - Germany has it's own shop now www.ardbeg.com/shop/de/ . Here are some excellent tasting notes from MasterOfMalt bit.ly/iAz4lN.
From a twitter discussion last night, I originally suggested that there were 'a few thousand bottles' of the Alligator Committee Reserve release yesterday (based on what Hamish Torrie said here t.co/IMWDZow). Those decent blokes @whiskysquad drew my attention to here is.gd/uLtQ5e & here is.gd/Dhogq5, which puts the committee release at a far higher 10,000 bottles. If other nuggets from 'the interview' with Hamish are more factually correct, it looks like Alligator will go on general release on 01/09/11 and will be limited to 40,000 bottles.
Good luck to all who read this on getting their hands on some.

I've been patiently waiting and watching all the details come forward about this release, and have today decided to make a move! I've just signed up to the Ardbeg Committee, and purchased a bottle of Alligator. Looking forward to getting hold of it now!

Rumours have been circulating over the last couple of days that Ardbeg's next release will be named "Ardbeg Alligator" - there is always a certain amount of excitement around these releases it sometimes reminds me of the hype surrounding Apple's iPhone, but on a smaller scale, excuse the pun ;)
The name Alligator, would seem to be a reference to the charring levels associated with American barrels: Light, Medium and Alligator (being the most heavily charred).
As @WhiskyNotes points out on his blog "Ardbeg did some experiments with heavily charred new oak casks and released two of them for Feis Ile 2009: Ardbeg 1998 cask 1189 and Ardbeg 1998 cask 1190."
So it will be interesting to learn more as the details emerge - if you hear anything please do let us know.
