@sutherlandinn Welcome to connosr. Be sure to populate your online cabinet as well as your bar is stocked and maybe share your thoughts on a few whiskies.

I just returned from a week in London where I discovered a small shop with an unbelievable selection. It's called The Vintage House. While there I picked up a bottle of the English Whisky Co.'s Chapter 6, which appears to be utterly unavailable in the US.

Jdcook, I noticed on your comment on the Bruichladdich PC7 you were struggling to find the Bruichladdich range in Australia. The Coles Group (Liquorland, Vintage Cellars, 1st Choice) have the exclusive supply in Australia. Best store in Victoria to buy these at is Pinewood Vintage Cellars (if you talk to the guys there they will often have bottles open for tasting as well).

For those who live in east Gippsland, Victoria, Australia, come and see myself and the team at Liquorland in Sale.

Not trying to boast, but we do have the best range in Gippsland!

@LeFrog @Beelzebozo If you're in that part of London you also have Milroy's just round the corner and Cadenhead's and Royal Mile Whiskies about 15 minutes walk away... (that covers 3 of the 5 really good whisky shops I know in London - Whisky Exchange and The Whisky Shop are a little bit further away, but not a lot).

The Vintage House is probably the best of the lot for random single cask bottlings (they do lots of 30cl bottles as well as 70s) but you have to get the right member of staff if you want to talk about whisky or get some advice.

(This reminds me, I really need to get on and actually start building my Whisky in London website...)

For mainly UK based people (especially, as I've not seen anyone else over here doing this, although there are a few companies in mainland Europe and the US), Master of Malt have started doing mail order sampler bottles of 'Drinks by the Dram' - www.masterofmalt.com/drinks-by-the-dram/

I received my order at the end of last week and now have a small pile of interesting things to try bbblog.org.uk/2010/06/drinks-by-the-dram

Fitzgeralds Hotel and Restaurant at 5033 Front St in Eagle River Michigan. We serve over 70 types of whisk(e)y as well as have a great wine selection and micro-brew beers. Couldn't help to notice we are the only ones with the Laphroaig 21 Year Cask Strength in our cabinet...

My new local - a 13th Century pub called The Haunch of Venison in Salisbury, Wiltshire (UK) - has an impressive range of around 40-50 single malts. I might be dropping by occasionally :)

I recently wint out to dinner in GRADE, a restaurant in Ghent, Belgium. They had an excellent range of single malt whiskies availalbe (about 30 of them) including a 25 year old Macallan and a 30 year old Glenfiddich! Impressive. You don't often see such a range in a restaurant.

I've just had quite a run of whisky shopping, and have several recommendations.

Portland, Oregon: Pearl Specialty Market (www.pearlspecialty.com) has a nice selection of whiskies, though the website seems to list everything they've carried in recent years, even if it's no longer in stock. Still, definitely worth a visit.

Boston, Massachusetts: I have to agree with @scotchtoad about Boston's Federal Wine & Spirits (www.federalwine.com). I landed a few excellent bourbons there, and the (cellared) whisky selection was superb. I wish I lived closer to Boston!

Springfield, Massachusetts: Table & Vine (www.tableandvine.com), a grocery store-sized shop. I met an extremely helpful clerk there, who helped me pick out a few solid whiskies. The downside is that we chatted for nearly an hour and a half, and my girlfriend (understandably) was bored out of her mind. I found her sitting on a case of beer, playing Sudoku on her cell phone. I made it up to her by taking her to the International House of Pancakes (a genuinely "American" experience) for her first time. We're now on good terms again.

New York City, New York: Astor Wines & Spirits (www.astorwines.com) was also completely wonderful. The staff were amazingly helpful and I found some excellent whiskies there. I highly recommend this store.

Calgary, Alberta: Kensington Wine Market (www.kensingtonwinemarket.com) has a great, and fully searchable, selection. I'm heading back there in a few days, and I'm excited to see what I'll come back with.

@timmyh80 do you guys have a website I can order from? That would be easier than heading over to Victoria every time I want something new! I wonder what else you have I haven't had!

For Toronto, you should go to the Queens Quay Terminal store. It is South East of Union station (5 minute walk) and has possibly their best selection of Whiskeys. Also, the Vintages website can help you out with some rarer ones occasionally. Their general website (LCBO.ca) has an extensive inventory from all of their stores in Ontario that is updated daily.

@robdoyle, the LCBO's website is indeed one of the few virtues of the LCBO. I agree that the Queen's Quay store is an excellent one, but a search on the website lets you know precisely which stores carry a particular bottle (and how many of it), which nicely takes the guess-work out of things.

Having made another jaunt over the US border into Buffalo, New York, I've discovered three more supermarket-sized wine and spirits vendors, all sister-stores of the Premier Group (premiergroup.net). There were some nice finds there, including a G&M Connoisseurs Choice Tamnavulin 15 year-old that I fell in love with a few weeks earlier in New York City.

After yet another trip, here are two more stores of note, this time in Lethbridge, Alberta:

Andrew Hilton (www.andrewhiltonwine.ca) has a nice, wide selection, with plenty available to taste. Recent finds there include the Port Charlotte PC7, the Longmorn 16, and the Amrut Fusion, as well as a few Bruichladdich miniatures.

The other is the Wine Cavern (www.thewinecavern.com), which has a nice sale on a number of "special finish" and single cask Bruichladdichs. They also have quite a few to taste.

Also, in an earlier post, I mentioned the Kensington Wine Market (www.kensingtonwinemarket.com) in Calgary, AB. I'd just like to sing their praises once again. The service is excellent, nearly every bottle is open for tasting, and the selection—which includes several exclusive bottlings—is wonderful.

@Metcarfre On a couple of recent visits to Vancouver, BC, Canada, found a nice selection at one of the signature BC Liquor stores (www.bcliquorstores.com/store/129). The are other specialty stores, but the prices are higher. Google or Bing - Vancouver BC Liquor Stores - for others.

If you want to try individual drams, I highly recommend the Shebeen Whisky House in the back of The Irish Heather (www.irishheather.com/gallery.php). They have a great selection and the bartender "Randy" is knowledgable and friendly.

If you're in Ottawa and want to sample some Single malts, this place has over 200 to choose from : thehighlanderpub.com It's right in the Byward Market. They range from the sublime - $5.95 for a Aberlour 10 yr ...to the ridiculous - $129.00 for a Highland Park 40 yr. Bring it on !

Anyone know of good stores in Puerto Rico? I have a friend down there (in Mayagüez) who's desperate to find some "top shelf" whiskey.

Another very nice rstaurant in the Byward Market in Ottawa, ON is Vineyards (www.vineyards.ca/web/). While primarily a wine establishment, the food is excellent and they have 300+ wines, 100+ beers and 30+ single malts,

A pub I want to visit is "The Dam Pub" in Thornbury, ON (just off Hwy 26, between Meaford & Collingwood). They have over 500 whiskies on their menu! web site: www.thedampub.ca

Damn, I envy you all ... no such place as a proper Whisky bar where I come from (Slovenia btw). Yes you can get a dram of standard whisky menu in many places, but to get a single malt and to bring some "water your eyes" when entering the bar ... I might just open one myself. I will let you know when I do.

@jdcook try www.vintagecellars.com the website does not show full range available so I would suggest a phone call to VC Pinewood (which is in Mount Waverly) on (03) 9802 7033.

Sorry about the delay in reply. I have been a little distracted with other things (new baby, work...)
