Best 10-12 year old current single malt

2 12

I only included the 10 year olds in this category because I think that Talisker 10 and Springbank 10 are #1 and #2. What are some of your favorite all times in this category?

By far the best 10 year old single malt I have had is Bladnoch sherry cask matured at 55%. So good I can't wait to try the 11 and 12 year olds.

My number 2 would probably be Springbank 12 year old cask strength claret wood expression.

Benromach 10 is a surprisingly good Speysider. Glenmorangie 10 The Original is probably the definitave Highland Single Malt. Talisker 10 is an impressive islander and one of my all time favorites in this age bracket. Islay is the hardest region to narrow down a single favorite, so I would declare a tie between Ardbeg 10 and Laphroaig 10 Cask Strength.

If I had to pick just on from these as a winner, I'd pick the Benromach 10. For a 10 year old, it's surprisingly balanced and complex, very smooth, and it simply tastes great!

@MacBaker62: +1...", and it simply tastes great!". Wise words. For me, Talisker simply tastes great and even if it doesn't hit the 'high highs' of yesteryear, it never fails to delight.

Why are there no more 'Stellar' expressions from Talisker? A..In the post war (ll) era, through the fifties and sixties the practice was to take the broadest cut possible. According to the Distillery, the real magic in their Whisky happened at the edges of the cut and now for safety reasons, the Boss wants a narrower cut. It is still right up there, though!

I agree with some previous comments: tough to beat Springbank 12 CS. However, I'm not sure that's the spirit of this post since it's not the "entry level" or " standard" bottling. Then I simply pass the torch on to Springbank 10!
