In the United States, especially around the end of year holidays, whisky makers tend to package 750ml bottles with various gifts. For whatever reason, Jack Daniels tends to do this a lot with belt buckles, shot glasses, small drinking glasses, or even flasks being popular companions to a 750ml bottle. I have also seen 50cl trial bottles and even a deck of playing cards.
Personally the best things I have received are a 50cl bottle of Highland Park 18 with a 750ml bottle of Highland Park 12 and a Glencairn Glass and tasting book with a 750ml bottle of Glenfiddich 12 year old.
While I certainly don't buy something just for the gift, if there are a few bottles I am considering, I may pick one with a gift over one without a gift.
