Brora is almost legendary, rivaled for cult status only by Port Ellen. So I feel privileged to put two Brora samples H2H today. I will start with this rather pale 19 Year Old Brora, that was bottled by Silver Seal in 2001.
The nose is very light with hardly any smoke and mostly nuts, prunes and spring flowers. No smoke nor oak. I would never have recognized this as Brora if I tried it blind. More like a Rosebank or St Magdalene. A Lowland Brora, by God! Blasphemy!
On the palate, it becomes sturdier and some peat emerges now. Sweet and fruity, to be sure. Prunes again, but also strawberries and apples.
The finish is fairly long and shows some oak and cold tea. Slightly bitter end.
Not very impressive, being Brora, but a nice malt nonetheless.
