I had the pleasure of drinking a dram of Octomore 2.1 with my buddy last night. This is a whisky that does not need appraisal. You love it or you hate it. It is a TKO anyway.
Nose: Peat. Lots of peat. Smoke. Lots of it. Ashes. Liquorice. A little mint. Just a little.
Palate: Is it aggressive? Yes, it is. Is it smooth ? Yes, it is. Ashes. Iodine. Salmiac. Marzipan. Red fruit. Did I mention ashes ? The ashes are combined with fudge. It is a deluge. Some ristretto coffee
Finish: The finish has nothing to do with eternity. It is huge.. Just a little overwhelming. A tsunami of ashes and fudge.
Do I need to say more? No. About 90 points in my book. Maybe it is still available somewhere. Grab it while you can.
@DutchGaelisch I have never had anything with salmiac.
Nice.
This sounds like more of a monster than some of the later X.1s. Do you know if that's true, @NamBeist ?
I've only ever had the 6.1, which I found to be very good but not that monstrous.
