I try to avoid the kind of whisky that is shipped in tankers instead of bottles, but I have found a few bargain priced Scotch blends that are very drinkable, that cost less than $20(US) a bottle. Black Bottle, Buchannan's Black & White, and Whyte & MacKay Special, are all very affordable and quite tasty. For a few dollars more Pig's Nose and Banknote 5 year olds, and Isle of Skye 8 year old, are malt heavy blends that are surprisngly good for their under $30(US) price tags!

I picked up 2 bottles of Clynelish 14yo on offer for £20 a piece - does that make it cheap whisky?

Oh, just looked at the board & saw that it was blends: Bailie Nicol Jarvie's usually less that £20 a go, and it's an absolute gem of a dram.

Here in Ontario anything under $30 is what's considered cheap. In that range I enjoy Islay Mist 8y and Teachers. Grants Sherry Cask is alright. Everything else I've had from this group, mostly Canadians, really does belong in soda.

Black bottle really has a place here for me $20~ where I'm at and it just hits the right notes for me in an inexpensive easy drinker.

Thanks for all your input so far! What about the more unknown ones, the ones you get under the Mediterranean sun for $15/10€? The ones you buy as a broke ass student? :) That make your head hurt even when thinking about the morning after...Long John is definitely one of 'em for me...

Bank Note Blended Scotch, 1L for US$20 is quite good. But for the price, Ancient Ancient Age 10 Star is only $12 for 1L in Virginia and Jim Murray gives it a 95 or so if I recall, outstanding bang for buck.

Ten high whiskey was astringent strong but had some decent flavors in there. Considering it was $2.99 per 750ml in college 2003-2007 I have to say many a whiskey coke featured this whiskey.

I paid 32us$ for a Glen Moray 10 Chardonnay Cask matured. It is very good for the price. I had a Ardmore Traditional Cask that was in the same range of price. Very good also. Some of the blends like Black Bottle and Ballantine's are also on shopping list at one time or another.

The cheapest bottle of whisky I've ever bought actually beats many more expensive ones: Evan Williams bourbon for $10.

@valuewhisky I agree about liking the Evan Williams it's a very under appreciated cheapy. So if I like someone's cheap whiskey response should I give it a thumbs down haha ;)

As a tribute to all those cheap blends that we've tasted and also to reminisce the good times we've had, feel free to post the cheapest whiskys you've ever had. The ones from the bottom shelf...and please share the unknown ones
Here's my examples: Lord Calvert 0,7 l 20€ Highland Queen 0,7 l 20€ Long John 0,7 l 21€ Black Velvet 0,7 l 21€
Due to our high alcohol taxing, Finnish prices stink, I know...
