Acquired this on a whim and the fact that I've never had an EWSB Vintage before.

Bottling stats are as follows: 2002 Vintage Aged 9 years/10 months 43.3%/ 86.6° Barrel No. 163

Nose: I detected maple syrup, brown sugar, vanilla, and traces of spice. Not a very complex start.

Body: Medium

Taste: Spice in the form of fall and winter baking spices and pepper, honey, slightly sweet in the way of caramel and vanilla. Not much in the way of oak.

Finish: Spicy with pepper and increasingly lingering warmth. Has a bit of bite on the end.

Overall: Pretty good just not as complex as I would have hoped. I do plan to buy next years though.

I agree with you on this one. My bottle has been open a few weeks but is still virtually full. It just had an overpowering taste of ash. I don't have the details on my bottle because I am not at home. I also have a bottle of Four Roses single barrel. It is fantastic! A little pricier but well worth it.

I noticed off flavors too, especially in the way of astringent/cleaner just a little bit but I noticed it. Im still willing to buy next years though.

Oh and I've heard nothing but great things about 4 Roses especially the Small Batch and Single Barrel.

Yes, the regular "yellow" label is not very good imo.
