Whilst on Islay this Summer, I tasted the 2013 Lagavulin. 18 years or so in a sherry cask, served at cask strength - glorious stuff! Among the best whiskies I've tried, and certainly the best Lagavulin.
Then there's Ardbeg - I've tried Ardbog (and own a bottle) as well as Auriverdes. The former was delicious, and I quite liked the Auriverdes, though it didn't really blow my mind.

I concur, Lagavulin went above and beyond to launch a spectacular bottle for the Feis Ile ( the only one I tried of the Feis Ile bottles). Will probably try and make it to the Feis Ile of next year, as I expect that both Ardbeg and Laphroaig might release some very special bottles in celebration of their second centennial.
Makes you wonder what Lagavulin will release in 2016, glorious days ahead gents, glorious days!

Islay Festival (Feis Ile) bottlings are somewhat difficult to come by. Have you ever tasted one, or, better yet, have you ever owned a bottle of one and really gotten comfortable with it over time? If so, how did you like the Feis Ile you had the privilege to enjoy?
So far, I've tasted only the Laphroaig Feis Iles. I have a bottle of the 2012, 2013, and the 2014. I would love to try a Bowmore and a Lagavulin, but they are harder to come by.
I found the 2013 Feis Ile to be rather interesting but it lacked the seaweedy (iodine) quality that I like in Laphraoig finishes. I'm confident that my bottle of 2014 will exhibit this characteristic from what I've read. As for the 2012, I can't wait to try that one, either.
Even though the 2013 Cairdeas Portwood was not quintessential Laphroaig, it was absolutely delicious and quite unique in a good way. Here is my review: connosr.com/reviews/laphroaig/….
