@RianC, you are a brave soul cooking outdoors with two toddlers, Here is a pic of pan fried bacon...with no toddlers around.

@paddockjudge - mmmmm bacon! stuck_out_tongue

It was only a small portable bbq and we orchestrated things so that, once lit, I never moved from my cooking spot, which also allowed me to act as as a human shield. Downside was my eyes seemed to be permanently in smoke. My eldest is almost five now, and he's reasonably well behaved and predictable, so his 'job' was to keep an eye on the youngest (who's completely wild like Bam Bam from the Flintstones).

Yeah, it was stressful ha ha grin

@casualtorture, your garden has yielded beautiful produce! I don't have any experience with okra, but I'm looking forward to a taste from your crop when I make a visit to TN. I have a hunch I may not be alone...

@casualtorture, I am infested with tomatoes, four varieties. Reducing (pun intended) my tomato inventory with a pan of simple chili, all ingredients are local.

So many tomatoes! A friend has left us so many boxes of tomatoes over the past week... I've made tomato sauce, mango and pineapple salsa, and a tomato and lentil curry (pictured below). Still to come: more tomato sauce and a tomato and eggplant curry.

Haven’t BBQed in a while. Probably because e rest of the family was away for lots of the summer and then I’ve been busy.

Tonight we celebrated the second night of Rosh Hashana. My brother and his family came over and my sister in law marinated some flank steaks which I grilled. The asparagus are tossed in olive oil, balsamic and kosher salt then grilled as well. Not seen in this photo are my aunt’s pickled salmon and my mother’s challah.

The disparity in the cooking levels of the steak was achieved by starting the last one on the frill as I flipped over the first two…

I ate well…
