This 17 Year Old from the Carn Mor Strictly Limited collection is a vatting of two sherry hogsheads, that yielded 670 bottles at a drinking strength of 46%. I tried it at a whisky & chocolate tasting in Ghent. But the extreme chocolate that was served with it (a Pacari Raw Ecuador 100% cocoa), completely smothered the whisky. Hence I am happy to try it again today (and leave the chocolate in the fridge).
The nose is very light and grassy. Hay and heather. Then some hints of white chocolate and citrus. Apples and pears. In the background some apricots, but it is clear that this was not the sherry casks’ first tour of duty. The influence is very limited. However. Leave it to breath for a while and it becomes sweeter. Hints of sultanas do surface.
It is light on the palate and quite fresh. White and yellow fruit, some pepper and vanilla. Cinnamon, maybe?
The finish is surprisingly short, but very fruity.
An appealing, albeit somewhat ordinary, spring whisky, just under 60 EUR.
