How many bottles? Right now, it would be Redbreast 12 CS or Powers John's Lane.

I'm hoping to get to Ireland next year. Suggestions from the Irish Whiskey Society Forum include Powers John's Lane (a consensus pick), Connemara Turf Mor (if you're into peat), and Jameson's Distillery Edition (at the distillery or at Celtic Whiskey Shop in Dublin). All are 65 euros or less at the CWS and none of these bottles are available in North America, to my knowledge. Enjoy your trip and let us know what you enjoyed and purchased!!

...the Yellow Spot is highly regarded (and I don't believe it has made it to NA either...Green Spot is available in Ontario (don't know if it's available elsewhere, but I don't believe the LCBO (gov't controlled liquor retailers in Ontario) ships outside of Ontario).
As well, there are a ton of bars in Dublin, especially, with large whiskey menus so you can 'try before you buy'.

@Bigtuna: Last year we had a sensational Connemara 'Cask Strength' Peated which I would highly recommend. It was, I suspect, an older bottling (?).

I would strongly recommend the green spot. Middleton very rare can be good and you may well be able to get some pre-diageo bushmills which can be great. Where are you going if you dont mind me asking?

After reading several reviews I'm leaning toward the Power's John Lane and maybe a bottle of Green Spot. I was thinking I wanted the Cask Strength Redbreast, however for the price of that one bottle I could potentially get these two bottles for roughly the same cost. Maybe? Hopefully, I'll get to taste a great deal of whisky while I'm there and make up my mind after a few drams. I'll try and check out the Celtic Bottle Shop. Do they offer tastings? We are planning on going on the Jameson Tour, however not the old distillery sadly enough. Not enough time, I'm there of a wedding and I've got to keep everyone happy!

And the winner is....The Redbreast 12 cask strength!
It beat out the Jameson 12 year Distillery Reserve (only available at the distillery they say), the Green Spot, Power's 12 year John Lane, Redbreast 12 and the Redbreast 15. Off the top of my head, I would give the Red Breast 12 Cask Strength a score of 96. It was full of flavor, spicy yet smooth, with a deep rich flavor that coated your mouth (oily I guess would be a better way of describing it) and it had a nice long finish to boot. I liked it better than the standard 12, it just seems to have more depth and character. I would rate the standard 12 a 93 (it used to be my favorite Irish whisky). Now I almost came home with the 15, but my budget was running a little thin by the end of the trip after all the tastings and pub hopping (too many Guinness). I found the RB 15 to be very smooth and only a tad better than the standard 12, I would rate it a 94 or so. It really was a toss up between the 15 and the CS12. The Power's 12 John Lane I would give a rating of 89, however I feel I need to spend more time with this one when I get another chance. The dram I had was from a freshly opened bottle, I really think this one has some serious potential given some time. I liked it's spiciness and its finish, however I found it a bit thin. I feel it had more character than the Green Spot, but the Green Spot was smoother. A friend of mine preferred the Green Spot over the Powers John Lane. I would give the Green Spot a rating of 88. The Jameson Distillery bottling was good, however I felt it was only slightly better than the regular Jameson, I would give it a ratting of 81. It does not help I tried the Green Spot before trying this one.
A bar tender talked me out of trying the Yellow Spot, I wish I had tried it now as I sit here and type. What's the harm in having one more dram right? He said for the money he didn't think it was worth the extra cash and it was only slightly better than the Green Spot, which didn't really blow me away. So, I tasted the Cast Strength 12 after hearing this and I was in love.
All in all Ireland was great, a beautiful country with great food and drink! Everyone I meet very friendly and I will cherish this trip for a lifetime. I only wish I had more time and money to taste everything I missed. Sorry, Bushmills, Connemara, and Tullamore Dew. Next time, however I think I want to go to Scotland first!

I'm leaving for Ireland Tuesday. What should I bring home, with in a reasonable price range? Red Breast 12 is my favorite Irish whisky. Should I get the 15, or cask strength 12, or get some Green Spot. Maybe Yellow Spot?
