@casualtorture I have read that this particular batch is superb.

@Nozinan I hope so, although I almost want to wait for an occasion to open it.

@casualtorture The best occasion is when you find another bottle.

I hate it when I write a long post then get "there was an error...." so here is a photo of my original response and Connosr trying to digest it...

@Nozinan , I don't trust any website with my long comments, including Connosr. Before I click Submit, I always copy it all in case I need to paste it in again on the other side of an error message.

By the way, I'm not too comforted by the thought of a physician literally dropping everything at the news of some incoming whisky! (You're a doc, right?)

@MadSingleMalt ha! Hey once you get to that level then you deserve the freedom to step out and take care of other business. Being a restaurant manager, my employees annoy me somethimes and I just step out to "make a bank deposit" then come back after I've settled down.

@casualtorture Tell me when you will open it up. I have a bottle of this expression, and would like to compare nosing and tasting notes. かんぱい!

@MadSingleMalt I'm not a surgeon, and I wasn't in the middle of an operation. I was charting. The charting was done upon my return.

No lives were lost, but if they were....Heck I'm a palliative care doc! People are "literally" dying to see me.

@Nozinan I have discovered that if you go out and back in when that happens, and you click on the comment box you find that your comment is still there and you can submit it. Happens to me regularly.

@Nozinan To be clear; I was referring to the error thing that comes up when you try to submit a comment.

@BlueNote I find that sometimes it's there, sometimes it's partly there and sometimes it's not there.

And sometimes it's best that my comments were lost.... smile

It wasn't a purchase, but last night I received three very welcome & generous samples of elder Bruichladdichs from a guy I "met" on the Reddit scotch board in appreciation for me telling him about the store that was selling Black Art 3.1 for $200. These were quite a surprise, and my daughters enjoyed helping me unpack the little bottles of "dada juice."

Being on dada duty, I barely had time to look at them beyond unpacking the box, but I think they were...

Bruichladdich 20 2nd Edition

Bruichladdich Cuvee 407

Bruichladdich Cuvee 382

So fun! And such a great example of how the online whisky world can work at its best!

Here's the thread where he showed off his Laddie avalanche: reddit.com/r/Whiskyporn/…

@MadSingleMalt, can you send your email address as I would like to know where the Black Art is available for $200 USD

@MadSingleMalt

Well, @DevD, I believe in sharing the love and I already previously posted here for all to see that these deals were available from Joyal's:

joyalsliquors.com/products/show-product/…

I hear that the Black Art 3.1 is cleared out now, but they do still have lots of other interesting stuff.

@Barnbip Very impressive! You are good for many fantastic evenings. I never had an old Glenfarclas but I am confident that it would suit my palate. Even the lesser Glenfarclas has all the flavors to please me, the only problem I had was the alcohol coming forward too many times. With the angel share lost of a 27 yo, it has to be fantastic. Enjoy.

Not a purchase - a gift, but someone purchased it.

Chivas Regal 12 YO - I went to see a patient for the last time (if you get my meaning) and his daughter gave me the bottle (and a card).

The card I will keep indefinitely as I do with all the ones I receive (it's rare enough). But this makes the second time this year that a family member of a patient has gifted me a bottle of Chivas. I haven't opened that one either.

I know that it might be interesting to taste it but what to do with the rest? I'm sorely tempted to combine the 2 bottles and exchange for some Dissertation or Legacy. Or Lot 40 CS if it ever comes to a store near me...

@MadSingleMalt

@Nozinan , I know you have plenty of legit complaints about your state liquor store, but it's pretty great that you can just walk in there with pretty much anything and trade it in.

@MadSingleMalt, and, get this, if someone brings back an LCBO bottle bought 20 years ago the LCBO will re-sell that same bottle for the price the original patron paid 20 years ago!

6 years ago 1Who liked this?

@MadSingleMalt

@Victor, ha—that's funny. That sounds like the explanation behind a few anecdotes I've seen about unexpectedly finding some long-gone bottle at its long-gone price.

That would be a total score, for sure.

@Victor UNLESS the same UPC symbol is being used in which case both the returner and the new buyer get and pay the current price.

@MadSingleMalt That's how I picked up Devil's Cask 3, at the original inflated price.

@Victor, twenty years might be a bit of a stretch. More than likely ignorance on the part of the receiving clerk and floor boss. Good luck returning something that isn't in the LCBO catalogue.

@MadSingleMalt

I gotta say, the whole enterprise sometimes sounds uncannily like another government-run retail operation I used to be familiar with. (I'll decline to name it, but it's American.)

It actually gets more funny. I have heard there have been cases where more of a certain expression have been accepted in return than were originally sold by the LCBO....

I know at least one person who has traded in expensive bottles sourced out of province for more than the price paid because of the KGBO pricing...and gotten some gems (also overpriced) in return...

@Mancub
Mancub replied

@paddockjudge I always wondered if someone could do that. There are bottles that the LCBO sells for $800 that you can purchase in the states for $350, Balvenie Tun comes to mind. A lot of US releases are 750ml where we often get the 700ml bottles, Ardbeg Uigeadial for example.
