@MadSingleMalt

So their selling price is effectively an "offer to buy" price too? Crazy.

Yeah, I can see how that could become a racket.

The catch is that if you don't have a receipt or it's over 30 days you have to exchange that day.

@MadSingleMalt It means you can't make a cash profit, and they have to stock what you want.

Of course in the old days, that catch wasn't there...

Canadian Club 40yo (not mine, but I will get to enjoy it!), Kilkerran 12, Lot 40CS (thank you for traveling to my fine city), and Ardbeg Uigeadail ($85 CAD taxes in, thanks to a friend that brought it back from the US).

@Mancub don't really look at this thread but seeing a CC40, lot40cs, and Ardbeg Uig in same photo piqued my interest. I've always wondered who in Ontario pays the insane lcbo asking prices for Ardbeg. Glad to see you sourced your bottle from outside the grasp of the kgbo.

@65glenfarclas Thanks! I've wanted a bottle for years, ever since my first taste, but knowing that you can get it for $55-65 USD I could never buy it here in Ontario. After all this time a very generous friend offered to grab one for me. It will be savored among close friends that also wish they had more Ardbeg. Cheers!

@Mancub The Kilkerran 12 is lovely stuff too. Nice score.

@BlueNote It's my first Campbeltown, I think, so I'm really looking forward to it. I read on hear recently that it takes some air to really open up, was that your experience?

@Mancub Yes, absolutely. I was a bit put off at first as it seemed quite sharply alcoholic. Now, a couple of months and about a third of the way into the bottle it just keeps getting better. Water does it no favours. Give it some time and air and I'm sure you will love it. You should get hold of some Springbank 10 for a definitive Campbelltown experience.

Cheers.

@Mancub, I will second what @BlueNote said about getting the Springbank 10, too. To me, it's the definitive modern Campbeltown whisky. Doesn't mean it's the very very best, but it's the poster child that you can compare all others to.

Sure, I agree with those who say that regions are largely meaningless. But in Campbeltown, where you've got basically one crew controlling probably 90% of the whiskies being made, it's possible to have a recognizable "style." Slightly smoky, slightly heavy—funky & salty. Good stuff!

@Pierre sounds like a valid reason to me. Have you tried it before? Did you buy it just out of interest, as a change up from the standard Ardbeg line, or because you really love it? Just curious.

@Hewie mainly to try it. I'm a first timer with this expression. First impressions are good. Standard Ardbeg profile with added fudgy sweetness.
