I had not tried this one in a couple of years, I think everyone is familiar with the Distiller's Edition so no need for extra blab.

Nose: Mossy peat, lanolin, Vick's vaporub, coal fire and menthol. There's some of the typical Lag notes of gentian roots and such but the sweet PX dampens it. Plum jam, walnuts, pepper & caraway.

Palate: Ginseng, seaweed, fresh asphalt, almonds, a bit of vanilla, cedar. On further sips, I get cream frosting made with lard, spice cake & dates.

Finish: Finish is medium length, an ashy, tarry peat lingers. Apples, salted almonds some prosciutto with sweet tart fruit.

Notes: Fun if a bit too sweet, the palate is better than the nose. I'd would love to try Lagavulin with different type of sherry than the PX used here, perhaps one day I'll get my hands on the famed Islay Jazz Fest version.

Great review, I have the tiniest amount of this left in a taster bottle in my cupboard .. had it too long to write anything useful but I'll be finishing it tonight after reading this mouthwatering review!

I’ve only had one Lagavulin DE and I believe found that it got better with time. If I recall correctly, time calmed down a bit of the sweetness and allowed the peat to come forward a bit. Still really lovely stuff, if a bit on the pricy side....
