I first tried the Laphroaig PX Cask a year ago and quite liked it. Then some time ago I picked up the Laphroaig PX Triple Matured.
I know these are two different releases - I have both the bottles to prove it - and they are two very different malts as well. The PX Cask is quite full with a charred chocolate feel where as the PX Triple Matured is extremely oily with a touch more iodine.
They both seem to be made in exactly the same way - QC matured in PX Casks - but is that the only difference? Because the malts are two very different experiences.
I'd agree with the batch variation thing, as well as maybe the whisky changing in the bottle between you opening the PX and trying it against the new release.
AFAIK the only difference was meant to be new packaging...

Can anyone shed some light on this?
