Benromach 10yr @ 43% can't be beaten, imo. Tons of great stuff @ 46% but I'm assuming you are after recommendations of 43% ABV or less.

@KRB80 I agree with you on the Ben 10. I would add a good bottle of Macallan 12 Sherry oak at 43% or a good batch of Highland Park 12. Not to forget, JW Green.
Now if we move past Scotch, there are a number of Canadians that would fit the bill:
Forty Creek Confederation oak
Forty Creek ortwood Reserve
Forty Creek Heart of Gold
Alberta Premium 25 and 30 YO.
Now if we raise the bar to 45%, which I consider to be low proof, a number of other options from Wiser's come into play as well.

Highland Park 12 and Benromach 10 as mentioned but I'd stick Old Pulteney in the mix as well as Benriach 10. Laphroaig 10 perhaps? Although I've decided I won't be buying that again until it becomes considerably cheaper than Ardbeg 10 in its current (UK) presentation.
The Lot 40 rye @43% is also excellent and I'd recommend in a heartbeat.

Between 40-43% ABV, I still enjoy:
And also the aforementioned HP 12, Ben 10, OP 12 and Forty Creek Releases (though I’m finding FC more and more variable in their quality lately).

I was considering the purchase of a bottle the Glenfiddich Solera (15 Yr old) at the price of 52$, but i declined because of the 40% abv. On the other hand,, I've had good experiences with some 43% whiskies (like good Lagavulin 16). What are some particularly good lower proof whiskeys that are still worth considering? (Not including the older and expensive whiskeys that lose a pecentage due to the "Angel's Share"?
