I think that the Elegancia of Macallan is a nice addition for whisky drinkers, who love wine. Unfortunately I don't. Still this whisky managed to captivate me at some levels. Though it kinda got sideways in my mouth it still offered me complexity and different layers, just like the movie Sideways. That's why the almost 80 point score, which is always on the verge of a good whisky for me.
Just like in the movie Sideways, wine was one of the main headlines in the Macallan 12 year old Elegancia. For me that's usually a turnoff but Elegancia managed to pick me up at least partially with it's rich body. So again I must state that even though this isn't my kind of whisky, I'd imagine people going crazy for it at certain whisky societies (sherry and wine lovers).
Nose: Chocolate with sherry notes and licorice.
Taste: Smooth and malty. Nutty with the effect of Marsala wine.
Finish: Sweet with hints of wood smoke.
Balance: People say that this would be best enjoyed with dessert like French truffle or brownies which actually might be true. Still something missing overall, probably the lack of warmth and delicate spices.
