Macallan Travel Series 1950s

I have mixed feelings about this whisky. On the one side it's a real easy dram to drink, going down with remarkable smoothness and making you feel good about it. It carries that distinctive Speyside flavour which goes well for some speysides and wrong for others, but as usual Macallan pulls it off flawlessly.

But at the same time it lacks oomph. The nose is distinctive only in its absence; there's hardly any scent to speak of. The smoothness of the drink is mostly due to a lack of punch and hollowness of body. It just doesn't deliver the type of kick I want from a good whisky. The palate hurries to vacate your mouth, leaving you ready for the next sip and making it ridiculously easy to get horrendously drunk with it.

The intense amber darkness of the whisky leads me to believe there's abundant colouring present, as something this dark should not taste so light.

It is nonetheless a typical Macallan with sherry-notes and just that vaguest hint of peat, so it's definitely not a bad whisky. I'm just not sure it's a particularly good one either.

Still, I expect my bottle to be drained fairly rapidly - as I said, this is a dangerously easy dram.

Sounds like a good drinking whisky; how would you compare it value-wise to other Macallans?
