The Midnattssol – Swedish for midnight – is described by Mackmyra as a summer whisky. It matured in a combination of American and Swedish oak and got a finish in casks that previously held Swedish birch sap wine. Imagine that!
Hmm, this is a very good nose! Loads of fruit in the guise of gooseberries, blueberries as well as some floral and herbal elements. Think elderflower and ferns and some woodsmoke. I would almost think there is some peat in there as I get a – albeit very delicate – development of smoke.
Nicely oily in the mouth. Again fruity, but now quite spicy as well. Next to the berries I get mostly pears and grapefruit. The oak speaks. More woodspice that the nose let on.
Long and warming finish.
This makes me smile. On a summery night – or maybe even Midsummer night – this would be tasty indeed.
