I bought this bourbon on a bit of a whim. I'm sure Michter's paid Netflix to include it prominently in several seasons of the entertaining Jessica Jones which I was binge-watching when I bought this. I laughed at my own silliness in being seduced by one of the oldest marketing tricks in the book, but if nothing else, I thought I'd be able to write a scathing review of a brand with a bit of a shady history.
- Nose (undiluted): caramel, vanilla, raisins, cherries, a hint of spice (cinnamon and cloves mostly)
- Palate: light to medium bodied, smoooooooooth as heck (i.e. no heat or alcohol burn), cinnamon, orange zest, a touch of tobacco
- Finish: medium length, orange zest, brown sugar, some fresh corn notes lingering
- Thoughts: I have no idea if this is Michter's own whiskey in the bottle or if they're still sourcing...but I like this. I didn't want to. I wanted to laugh at the suckers who overpay for over-marketed hype but this is quite pleasant. Yes, it's overpriced in Ontario, no doubt. But I can't totally rule out buying another bottle. I suppose it depends if there are any more seasons of Jessica Jones in the works.
