@GoHabs Have you been in Montreal lately. Montreal is doing better now and will soon be flourishing, I hope. With politic decisions in Ottawa going against Montreal in the late 70' and the 80', Montreal had to change its industrial structure. We are still doing it, but there is a buzz in town and the future look promising.

@Nozinan That's right, I did! Creamy and buttery, with rye spice, dark fruits, tons of oak - brilliant stuff. FYI the rye spice comes from the cask (which previously held rye whisky) - the juice is 100% corn.

@Mancub Yes, from the pop-up. I replied to @Nozinan with a few brief notes, but really it was excellent. Both this and the NBC are "one per customer per visit" so if you want more than one of a particular bottling, you'll just have to exit the store and come back to buy each one.

@talexander It sounds great. Have you had CC20 before? Is there a relation or is it a whole other beast?

@Mancub I've had a few CC20s before (there are batch variations), there are some at a few LCBOs now, and there is a new batch coming out next year. CC20 is a blend (whereas CC40 is 100% corn) but both feature a fair amount of oak. Going by memory, I'd say they are quite different (the 20 has a lot of complexity whereas the 40 is more of a burst of flavour), but I look forward to doing a side-by-side with the 20 and the 40.

About the HP Full Volume: I just watch these things from the online sidelines, but it sounds to me like @65glenfarclas has it right: "mysterious/haphazard LCBO pricing."
Haven't you had a few notable things like this over the past few years? I remember chatter about certain Amrut, Benromach, Octomore, and Bowmore whiskies being weirdly & unexpectedly cheap, and then everyone later saying "Aw, I shoulda stocked up!"
@Astroke, I bet you'd be doing the group here a favor if you popped yours open and shared your verdict.

@Nozinan, did you see my follow-up questions about the exclusivity to Canada? Did you miss that, or do you just not feel like talking more about it?

@MadSingleMalt I did open it the day I picked it up. Today I am trying it again (as I write). Very minty, but simply a more intense version of the regular Lot 40. After tonight I will wait at least a month to try it again. I am enjoying it, but I was fairly sure I would as I am a fan of Lot 40 and a bigger fan of powerhouse Rye's..

@Victor I picked up my bottle today that I purchased online. I find everything about it cheezy, packaging theme is lame and it seemed rushed. I think you are on the right track that it may just not be that good. I don't think I will open it until I see/read a few reviews first. Something just seems off about it.

@MadSingleMalt whoops, I think this thread is a little off course now, no thanks to me.

@Astroke, so it's in, like, I dunno, some sort of model stage amp or something? What's even the idea with that supposed to be?

@MadSingleMalt looking at the box/speaker, dials to turn up the fruit/bourbon/vanilla. Lame.

@Nozinan Final thread jack post. Box for the HP Full Volume states: "Filling 481 casks on the: 30th March; 29th April; 10th, 17th, 31st August; 7th September. All during 1999". Unless it was taken out of cask on or after Sept 8th 2017 (possible, but unlikely if LCBO has it at the end of October) it is 17 years old.

@65glenfarclas I'm glad we got that sorted. I can sleep tonight.

I opened my Lot 40CS last night, too many conversations about it and days spent refreshing inventory screens to not dive right in. In a single sentence, I think @Astroke hit this nail on the head, "simply a more intense version of Lot 40". Now I would need to compare them side-by-side to really stand by that declaration, but initially that's what stuck with me too. I too think it needs a bit more time to evolve, as I feel with most rye - a little air time does wonders. Alcohol on the nose, even after half an hour in the glass. The alcohol masks itself within those herbal notes, but it's still present and a bit sharp. A big punch of flavor which just coats your tongue and attacks the senses - a lot is going on. Lots of caramel, pickle/dill, wrapped up in rye spiciness. It actually reminds me a bit of High West Rendezvous Rye, I think I will try them beside each other next time. I enjoy rye and I love the mishmash of flavors that seem to jump out from that ever so present spice. I don't think I'll grab another bottle at this time, but I'm really looking forward to seeing how this one evolves. I have more notes but maybe they are best shared in a review. Cheers!

@Nozinan, @paddockjudge, @talexander, @UllysesUnchained, @Victor. Amazingly, there are still 60 bottles of Lot 40 CS available and 140 CC 40 year old available after the initial buying frenzy for the annual premium spirit release in BC. Stagg still showing 3, all the William Larue Weller gone, Sazerac all gone. Cairdeas all gone. The one bottle of Black Bowmore 1964 at $36,800 was gone at opening time. Still plenty of other good stuff available so us outlanders should be able to score a few items if we get into Vancouver next week.

@BlueNote, WOW! Stagg remaining on the shelf. At $200 each there should be zero remaining. I am patiently waiting for the Northern Border Collection Rare Release to arrive in N. Ontario, meanwhile, thousands of miles away on the far coast there sits an abundance. Perhaps Amazon should be the sales agent for wine and spirits in Canada.

@paddockjudge Patiently waiting? So you've made no attempts or connections to get any of the releases from out of province or through anyone in Toronto?

@Nozinan You are absolutely correct. I have three sources at work for me. Two are out of province and one is in Toronto. That is why I have been patiently waiting (and have not been whipped into a lather) for the NBCRR to arrive in N. Ontario, because I know if it never arrives at LCBO stores near me I won't get skunked. It would be nice to have the luxury of purchasing these bottles in my own backyard.
My disappointment with the LCBO has risen to new heights.
