Funny. Here no one can find it...there, no one wants to buy it and they're slashing prices...
Oh, Calgary...
Of course, you have to add 5% tax...

Canada 150 IN 5. With only a couple of weeks remaining in 2017, I've decided to once again salute Canada's sesquicentennial with a few tasty expressions, not just a few delicious Canadian drams, but a bevy of beauties whose ages collectively equal 150 years. I'm sharing these with my son and his cousin, a couple of sturdy Canadian lads. Happy 150th to our home and native land. Cheers!

@Nozinan, that is the bottle top seal/stamp for CC40. I carefully removed it when opening the bottle and immediately recycled it. A big thank you to @Nozinan and @talexander for tracking down the elusive CC40 and safely delivering it to me.

@paddockjudge A lovely still life. Group of Seven worthy.
If you had to pick just one of those for the desert island?

Always enjoy your input @Nozinan. I guess I expected the CC40 to be the survivor. What would it be for you? Curious to see if you and @paddockjudge agree.

@BlueNote I like all three of the finalists. I think I would ultimately go with Wiser's 35 or Highwood 90/20. I know rye is the superior grain (but there is some in the W35) but I really like the higher ABV and therefore less diluted flavours of the other 2.
I think, price and availability not being a factor, I'd choose the W35.

@BlueNote, choosing just one from the 150 in 5 picture is impossible work.
There are two single grain corn whiskies two, two single grain rye whiskies, and a blend of mostly corn with rye. Although Highwood Ninety 20 YO is a delicious whisky, CC 40 YO trumps it, easily. Alberta Premium 30 YO is one of my favourite whiskies; however, AP 25 YO is an example of pure elegance and delivers big while being only 40% abv. Wiser's 35 is incredible! A blend of approximately 10:1 corn to rye at 50% abv...and 35 years old.
It is a tough choice, to select one of these three. CC40 YO is the oldest single grain Canadian bottled. Wiser's 35 YO is a masterpiece and deserves its place upon the podium. Alberta Premium 25 YO is equally amazing and ever so scarce.
The best I can do is call it a tie between W 35 YO and AP 25 YO .........................................................with Century 25 YO Calgary Stampede 100th Anniversary close behind.

@Nozinan @paddockjudge The CC40 is available here for $253, Lot 40 CS at $80 and Wiser's 35 at $190. Unfortunately, no well aged Alberta Premium available. Looks like you two agree on the Wiser's 35, so that will be my Xmas present to myself. The CC is just a bit too pricey here. Maybe next time from Alberta. Thanks guys.
Cheers.

@paddockjudge As a rye guy, I would probably pick the two AP over the others. Though, I have to admit this Highwood 90/20 is a beautiful corn whisky.

@Blue note, you can't go wrong picking up a bottle of W 35. Now the tag of $190, that is pricey! Are you getting that at the government store or a fancy boutique?

@paddockjudge That's government, my friend. You guys think you've got it bad with the KGBO, we've got BC Larceny Stores.

CC 40 YO and Lot No 40 Cask Strength 12 YO in a ratio of 11 to 1 ...ish.
14 ml of CC 40 YO with 1.25 ml of Corby's Lot No 40 CS...delicious!
I have tried varying ratios, 14/1.25 creates a spectacular whisky...and in accordance with Canadian law this remains a 40 YO whisky...and a single distillery whisky, as these were both distilled and bottled at Hiram Walker, aged at nearby Pike Creek.

@paddockjudge that's assuming the CC40 doesn't have some other juice in it given the allowable 1/11 rule...
