@talexander I’ve heard the NBRR is Oct 7, but a Corby Rep told me Oct 8th, so I’m not sure. CC40 is “mid-October” whatever that means. Sorry I can’t be more helpful than that.

@OdysseusUnbound Oct 7 is the Saturday, which I think is the usual weekday LCBO releases. Looks like I better take out a bank loan before then!

What do you think our chances will be? 2000 of each... 36 million Canadians...

I hope @victor is right that Canadians don't appreciate good Canadian whisky.

@Nozinan There are still tons of Dissertation on the shelf at the Summerhill LCBO. I'm not too worried. If they come out on Saturday, I'll pop by in the morning and do some shopping.

@talexander I think (but cannot confirm - actually I'm talking out my butt on this one) there were more than 2000 Dissertation produced. DKM's website has a comment that it was like 12000 for ONTARIO. This is 10000 bottles (2000 per release) for all of Canada.

Rarity may not make it better, but it sure might make it tough to get.

Are you looking at getting all 5?

@Nozinan I don't know - unexpected large-scale home repairs + exploring private school for Maggie = re-budgeting my life.....I'll for sure by a few but probably not everything, I may have to prioritize.

How sure are we on the 2000 bottle count? I'm asking because with Last Barrels there were different figures floating around. Livermore said 6000 bottles, but Dave Mitton said 2000. I don't know who was right, but both of them are obviously sources I would trust to have the right numbers.

@Nelom I think there were more than 2000 of the Last Barrels, but in any event that was a KGBO exclusive.

The 2000 (approx) amount was what we were told at the SOT masterclass by the Doc.

@Nelom @Nozinan When people tell me numbers like that, I can never remember them anyway...I live 15 mins from Summerhill so I'll for sure be able to buy at least one bottle of everything, and I won't be disappointed if I end up not able to buy more (I've only purchased two bottles of Dissertation and the Wiser's 150).

@boatracer That conforms exactly to what he told the masterclass that Nozinan attended. 2000ish bottles it is. It'll be quite interesting indeed to see how far that will stretch.

@Nelom Well I will be travelling around Sat morning to get my hands on some. Likely going for Lot 40 CS and the Pike Creek. The 35 year is intriguing as well. Who am I kidding, will likely just get what i can get a hold of.

BTW found the Connosr community a few weeks ago and loving it. Seriously got into whiskey about 6 months ago. Was a casual, special occasion, whiskey drinker before that.

@boatracer Does Cambridge still have that chocolate factory that makes amazing milk chocolate?

@Nozinan
Nozinan replied

@boatracer Must be. Back when I was a resident I went to a conference and the rep from Bayer had ordered (from them) chocolate 4s and 8s to represent the 0.4 and 0.8 mg doses of Baycol.

I preferred the 0.8 mg dose because there was more chocolate. In the end the drug was pulled because of a minor issue - it killed people. but the chocolate was good, even if I never got to prescribe the drug...

HelloLCBO told me that CC40yo will be available at the end of October. We'll also see it available online. I also inquired about Kilkerran 12yo, which is supposed to be hitting us October 28th!

@Nozinan It's currently listed on the LCBO site for $87.95 for 700ml bottle.

@Mancub Compared to other similar things that seems reasonable for the LCBO. I wonder how quickly it will sell out.

@boatracer, Is the Lot 40 CS and Pike Creek releasing this week?

@DevD That's the rumour. Supposed to be this weekend.

Mancub replied

@Nozinan It does look reasonably priced, let's hope they don't go changing it before the release.

With the information that the Northern Border Collection is going to be an annual release I'm feeling less inclined to rush out and get them all. I think I may just settle with one or two and wait for the general consensus to come out (or maybe have the opportunity to swap samples with friends that acquired different bottles).

@Nozinan
Nozinan replied

@Mancub Where did you hear they would be releasing them annually? That sounds like good news. Then of course I'll want to get some from every batch..

That may change my game plan. I was planning on getting a third Lot 40 to drink with two to save but if you have it on GOOD authority it's an annual release then I would stick with the 2 I have, and maybe buy one next year and compare Lot 40 Lots.

Nelom replied

I've heard the annual thing before, but it's unclear if it's going to be the same releases each year or something new each year. My guess is the latter, but I don't know.

Corby Spirit and Wine Ltd. is thrilled to introduce the first annual Northern Border Collection Rare Release, a hand-picked selection from Canada's rarest casks.

That's from Corby's press release: newswire.ca/news-releases/…

@Mancub
Mancub replied

@Nozinan @Nelom the annual thing came from a couple different sources, but now that I'm thinking about it more and what Nelom said, I think his second thought will be right. I asked the good Doctor if Lot 40CS would become an annual bottling and he replied, "it will change each year". Which could mean a change of abv to a continuation of the spirit or blend...but it sounds like they are doing something annually with these releases.
