If Lot 40 CS sells out at the LCBO and starts showing up on the secondary market at ridiculous mark-ups, I’ll just pass and buy something else. CC40 already gets a “Hard No” from me, as I’m just not willing to spend that much on any whisky. I’ve already come to my senses. No whisky is worth losing my mind or any amount of sleep over.

@Nozinan. I need to clarify an issue here. The LCBO app does not provide insider information. What is does is provide information on stock quantity and the location in "real time". It can be down loaded to a smart phone(android or apple IOS). The advantage for a "bottle chaser" is that he/she gets a head start on where to get an item, provided that person is close byto the lacation and has the time to get there. Regarding multi bottle purchase. CC 40 was the item I mention. The problem here is that this opens the door to "speculator". Very much like someone paying another person to stand in line for that new IPhone.

My wife surprised me with a little 'Just Because' gift today which included the fall issue of Whisky Advocate. In it Lot 40CS is listed for $60. If I'm remembering correctly didn't those that went to SoT reported back that it would be retailed fro $64.95? Now upon release it is $69.95. Do you think they realized how sought after this bottle would be and changed the price accordingly? Or are different provinces listing these bottles at different prices?

@fiddich1980 The LCBO app is available to anyone with a smartphone.
Insider information is when someone tells me that store Y is going to have 2 cases of whatever on day X, and I know about it so I am there when the store opens and buy my fill. Then a poor shmo logs onto the app, sees 12 bottles and arrives 5 minutes later to see the last bottle leave the store.

@Mancub The SOT price was probably the Recommended price. Certainly not what Corby's gets. Otherwise World of Whisky would not be able to shave off 10% for bulk buyers. My BIL paid the $70 plus GST (In Ontario HST is included) but because he picked up 2 Wiser's 35, the total was high enough to get him 10% off.

@Mancub It is listed in Whisky Advocate as $US60 (which at today's exchange rate is $CAN76). Generally speaking, Canadians pay less for Canadian whisky than those in other countries (though if anyone has examples counter to this, I'd be curious to know).

Per the LCBO twitter feed the Northern Boarder Collection will be available online this week.

@boatracer So what it's saying is that the online stuff will be sold out this week.
8 years ago 0
@Nozinan pretty much. Unless you know when it goes live, which us non-insiders do not.

@boatracer I suspect the cheaper ones will not attract resellers as much as the CC40 or the Wiser's 35.
It this point I have been turned off by the whole process so am less likely to keep looking as often. if I find it, fine. If not, more money in my bank account...

@Nozinan I chatted with HelloLCBO today and even though they tweeted about the online sale they didn't have any information on day or time. They said all they know is what the tweet said. I've been keeping an eye on the site and if it pops up I will send out a message here as quick as I can.

The LCBO pop-up at King & Portland has some inventory of Pike Creek 21 and G&W 17. The clerk said that tomorrow the Wisers 35 and Lot 40 CS will be in stock. He also told me that the LCBO is now totally sold out of CC40, but don't know if that's actually true or not?

@talexander More inventory in Toronto? Weird. Who could have predicted it?
8 years ago 0
@Nozinan Already down to 8. There are some popping up though, a couple more cities with stock just listed. Maybe the clerk that told @talexander they were all gone was misinformed?

The LCBO is like the film industry - nobody knows anything.

@talexander We need someone in Whisky like George Clooney to DEMAND to know who knows what. Maybe George Grant?

@talexander I'd offer to grab you one from London but I've literally only left the house to walk the dog for the past week, I'm on a big deadline. If there is some still available this afternoon I may be able to get my wife to grab you one when she is back?

@GoHabs A top shelf Canadian whisky at the SAQ is like a big talented center playing for the Habs: something we haven't seen for a long time.

@talexander I JUST refreshed the stock and all 12 from that London store are gone...I think people must be buying multiple bottles or staff are taking first dibs, that just seems too quick.

@Mancub On the LCBO website the wellington store still shows 12. This system is crazy.

And now the 12 in London are gone and 12 in total are divided between Amherstberg and Sarnia.
It's worse than Whack-a-mole!

Lot 40 CS and Wiser's 35 showed up at the pop up store. Limited to 1 per person. Tiny line up waiting. Inventory showed up on line when store opened. This roll out SUCKS and is not equiltible for those that do want to drink it.
