Are you talking about Irish Pure Pot still whisky (also called single pot)? Just to state it in this thread Irish Pure pot whisky is unique in the world as it is made from a mix of malted and unmalted (green) barley. The only Irish whisky of this style that I have tried is Midleton Powers John's Lane 12 Pure Pot Still (won JM's Irish whisky of the year). I though it was lovely though as it's the only one of this style I've tried I can't give a general impression of what the style is like, am looking at giving some of the Redbreast bottles a go to expand my knolage in that regard.

I really love the red breast and I strongly recommend Green Spot. Frankly just wanted to see what the general impression was so didn't really mind which direction the discussion took to be perfectly honest. I realise that is somewhat unhelpful.

I had a bottle of Redbreast 12 in the past and it was very good. Very different from Scottish single malt. It is worth the try. I tasted the Cask Strength in Chicago last march and it is very good too.

I too have tried a bottle of Redbreast 12 year old. It was very good. Similar to Scotch, but lighter. I'm going to have to pick up a bottle of the Cask Strength 12 year old next!

With Beam taking over at Cooley distillery there seems to be a huge resurgence in the popularity of Irish Whiskies. What do you guys think of pot still whiskies and has anyone ever tried an Irish whiskey from a now silent distillery?
