recovering my scotch taste buds

Anyone encounter anything like this? I was hiking and touring in Italy for ten days, drinking lots of wine, but no scotch (not so easy to find there). I enjoyed the wine adventure, but when I got home, I found that my scotches didn't have the same tastes that they did before. After a couple of days at home, I'm starting to get the taste buds back, but could they be so affected by the wine, or diet or rich Italian food, that is not my typical diet?

@strngbndr Lots of things can affect the sense of taste and smell. If you didn't have any alcohol for a month, for instance, you may notice that you are more sensitive to the alcohol and have some trouble with higher proof drinks. Last night was an off-night for me. I tried a few things and everything tasted funny and off to me, and I couldn't get any nuance. It happens. The trick is to keep trying things that you know and test whether everything is back to normal :)

I recently lost my taste for whisky due to a long illness. It happens - just give it a week or two, it comes back!
