Rusty nail Quandary

This evening I mixed a batch of rusty nails using Teachers and of course Drambuie (2 parts scotch to 1 part drambuie). We are not rusty nail drinkers and this is a new experience for both of us/ My wife said let me taste that and I did. She said YUM and asked for another. I think that I have created a monster and wonder if I should insist that she adheres to her Alberta premium and water or if I am now to share my scotch blended with drambuie with her? Is there better choices of blended or malt scotch to use in making this very sippable cocktail? Jonesz

@Jonesz: My advice. If you are going to make rusty nails, use an inexpensive blended scotch. The drambuie, even when mixed 1 to 2 overpowers the scotch because it is so sweet. I've tried them on occasion and after 2, it gives me a headache. My wife, who dislikes scotch with a passion, will drink a rusty nail because the drambuie masks the flavour of the scotch. I've not tried mixing it with rye or bourbon, but my guess is it would work just as well at masking their flavours too.

@PeterG7 Thanx to you and Nozinan. My wife also has disliked scotch till now and could not see herself drinking a dram. That has changed with the rusty nail cocktail and she quite happily sipped one last evening. I do not want to share my scotch tho (tongue in cheek) and was quite prepared to pour her a rye and water in the past. Anyone here who has a favourite rusty nail recipe (using blended scotch)?

@Nozinan Ah, my wife! She once suggested that lagavulin would taste better if pepsi or coke was added.
