Sample Trading Re-opened

Youngupstart started a discussion

Hey everyone, just wanting to re-open a recently touched on discussion not getting much attention. Sample trading is something I am quite enthusiastic about as there are things I would like to try but alas can not get my hands on. If anyone has something interesting and are willing to send it to someone else in promise of something they are interested in, please comment and or ask about my current selection (larger than cabinet indicates). I have some very interesting single casks that are not bottled for anybody else and provide very interesting expressions. Hope to hear from some other interested community members. Cheers!

@Youngupstart: sample trading and bottle sharing is something I'm very much into, but I have to limit myself to Europe because of the legal limitations on shipping alcoholic beverages worldwide. I'm not completely familiar with all the regulations, but am pretty sure I am not allowed to ship a box of 3cl whisky samples to - for example - Canada. That might explain why the discussion isn't receiving the attention you would expect.

I love the idea, but my collection at the moment is small and boring, and is gonna take a while for me to build up again. I think mailing alcohol in Canada is extremely restricted.

@markjedi1 Yes something I decidedly did not mention without consideration was my inability to be trading over exaggerated distances. Customs would have a fit and most likely confiscate the contents. This discussion was more aimed at Northern America for now. Thanks for the response!

That's quite alright. Sampling does work, though. I've had succesful trades with quite a few Connosr community members in the UK, Netherlands, Italy and Spain - and even one person in the US. It would seem that if you put 'collectable malt' on the box, customs doesn't interfere (although I admit is was only 6 samples, I'm not sure how they would react to 20 samples).

@markjedi1 and @Youngupstart, Sigh! I wish I COULD legally exchange samples. Here in Maryland it is a felony crime to bring in any alcohol through the mail, even beer. Becoming a felon would entail permanently losing some legal rights of citizenship.

@Victor Yeah, that is really strict, although I'm not sure if it isn't the same thing here in Ontario too.
