Seeking Help from N. American Society Members

I am potentially seeking assistance from fellow Scotch Malt Whisky Society members based in North America to help me source these Society logo Glencairn glasses: smwsa.com/shop/shop-accessories/…

Looks like this: images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/…

Appreciate any offers to help that I can get to source a few of these.

Will reimburse via PPal.

PS. I have emailed the Society (American Chapter) directly and am waiting for their response in the mean time. With any luck, I may not have to trouble others.

I actually like them better than the usual glencairns you see. When I first got them I was disappointed at how much smaller they were. But I've found that their shape actually brings out aroma and flavor better than the usual glencairns. And though small, their shape is more elegant.

When they arrive, why not let us know what you think?

@McTeague I didn't realize they were smaller than usual size glencairns. Looking more closely at the picture it does look a lot like the mini glencairns I got from Laphroaig.

I'm looking forward to doing some H2H testing with some of my favourite malts in February.

I think these ones from the SMWS of America are regular Glencairns whereas the current official SMWS glass for the rest of the world is the copita style.

The mini-Glencairns as used in the Laphroaig distillery is something else altogether.

I think for the daily dram, the Glencairns seem to be the best all-round.

@sengjc I, myself, would really like to get some Copita glasses from the SMWS, so I am curious to know how you manage to buy directly from SMWS of America.

@Robert99 I purchased the copita shaped Society glasses via the SMWS of Australia as I am a member. I ordered the Glencairn shaped Society glasses from the SMWS of America as they are the only chapter that has them.

Where are you based at?

Incidentally, the Society Glencairn glass on the left is my sole old glass that has a chipped rim.

@sengjc I am a Canadian living in the Province of Quebec. As mail order of alcohol is illegal in Canada, the SMWS has some distributor: 2 stores in BC and 2 stores in Alberta. That's it! That is saying that no SMWS whisky reach my province. In the past, I tried to order from Kensington Market store in Alberta with no success so I learned to forget about SMWS to avoid disappointment. But reading you brought back to my memory that Canadian distributor. So I email them a request and I will see how it goes, Glasses are not alcohol, but I am not a SMWS member so I don't know what the outcome will be. But I now keep in mind that I may have Connosr fellows that are SMWS members and that one of them may be kind enough to help me.

@sengjc I forgot! How do you like the SMWS Copita glass?

@Robert99

It's a really good snifter and does intensify the nose a bit better than the Glencairn - be a little bit careful when enjoying cask strengths.

Doesn't have the weight in hand as you would for a Glencairn, and probably a little delicate for everyday use.

The bowl is for generous and the shape makes it easier to swirl. I find it is better for analysis as compared to the Glencairn.

@sengjc I"m now convinced I need at least a few. I am glad we are not talking about a whisky that is very tempting and out of my price range but just by the margin that keeps it in my view as I am sure you would be able to convince me to buy it, Thanks!

Just to clarify, the glasses I have, which came from SMWS USA, are the ones on the right in this photo: images.tapatalk-cdn.com/16/01/…

Which some of you are calling the "copita shaped Society glass". They are smaller than your typical glencairn. Maybe 20 percent less volume, smaller bowl, smaller rim.

I was looking for the Glencairns with the Society logo to replace the sole glass that I have with the chipped rim - looks like my search will continue. I am yet to receive delivery of these ordered Society "Glencairns" though.

Talk about false advertising...

@sengjc, SMWS USA sells both types of glasses. You just have to be careful not to confuse them when you order. They are on their website under "Shop Accessories".

@McTeague Excellent, looks like I ordered the right ones by the looks of the invoice. Didn't realise that the SMWS of A stocked both types.

@Robert99 Looks like you can get the copita ones from the SMWS of A too.
