A bourbon sour made with Elijah Craig 12 and a mix of orange and lemon juice from fruit I smoked for a couple of hours. Best sour I've ever had.

@cpstecroix - That, sir, sounds amazing! I would have never thought of smoking fruit.

Tonic water, lime and ice (actually diet tonic).
Really refreshing in the heat.
I think I would like either a Bruichladdich laddie classic or A'bunadh, but I'm working...

Ardbeg Supernova 2010. It is a pricey bottle, but I am a very big fan of it.

@bwmccoy I'm getting pretty into messing about with cocktails, it was the next logical step from my love of cooking. As I was already smoking a brisket, throwing some lemons and an orange on (cut side up) was a fun gamble that really paid off.

@Victor I totally agree! My bottle has been open for a year and a half (opened on my wedding night) and it has only gotten better . . . you have inspired me. I am off for a wee nip myself.

@Nock wow...that's not what I would have expected for a wedding night. Did you share with your wife? My wife can't stand the smell of peated scotch . If that was me the marriage would have been a very short one...

@Nock, yes, that is absolutely my experience with the Ardbeg Supernova 2010 as well. My bottle has also been open about a year and a half, and it is the best now that it has ever been. It is truly impressive to see a highly peated malt get that much better that much longer after opening. You really do not expect that to happen, especially after so much time. And the SN2010 was quite delicious when it was first opened too. That was the dram which upon first sip made @Dramlette decide that she really did like the heavily peated malts after all.

Old Granddad and Raging Bitch. So far the two seem to be getting along quite well. (BIB) (beer)

The New Zealand Whiskey Collection - Double Wood 10 year-old. Six years in American oak and finished four years in French oak ex NZ Pinot Noir....I think the barrels were still wet. Very unique. Extremely complex. Intriguing. More than one sitting required.

I just may have time for a dram tonight....what'll it be? So many malts, so little time. If my Skype buddy will drink with me it will either be Bladnoch 11 year old 55% Sherry cask matured. Or, my Skype brother in law and I may opt for glenlivet Nadurra, Aberlour A'Bunadh or Amrut intermediate sherry.
If neither are available I'll ask my kids to help me choose, or go back to the old standby....lime, ice and diet tonic water

Jackpot! I'm thoroughly enjoying Springbank cask strength 12 year old ( no wine finish). I liked it better than the claret wood originally, then a year later it was the opposite. Now I like it again. It 's got a saltiness in the finish tat is really interesting. The nose seems to have developed more. Or maybe as I only have a dram once every few months my nose and palate have developed since the last time.

New one: Balblair '91 18 yo. Light and fruity, but complex enough to be interesting. B+plus.
A new bottle of A'bunadh Batch #44 will end the evening.

Something very special tonight; approaching the ends of a bottle of Balvenie Tun 1401 batch 5 paired with 64% Madagascan chocolate. Amazing is an understatement.

Last night I attended a Whisky Society hosted "Dinner & Drams" event at a local steakhouse here in Seattle. The 5 course meal was paired with 5 Society whiskies ranging in age from 21 - 29 years.
The first course was Chilled Rose Water Soup that was perfectly paired with a 27 year Glenburgie (71.35 - "Having a rose petal bath in the Glasgow School of Art").
The second course was a Summer Vegetable Salad paired with a 22 year Craigellachie (44.55 - "Afternoon Tea at Fortnum & Mason").
The third course was Seared Sscallops paired with a 21 year Mannochmore (64.35 - "Nicey, nicey, sweet 'n spicy").
The fourth course was Grilled New York Strip paired with a 25 year Glen Ord (77.28 - "Tropical Nights").
The fifth course was Chocolate Ganache paired with a 29 year Teaninich (59.41 - "Marriage in the merry month of May").
What an amazing evening of great food, awesome whisky and wonderful people.

Having some more Clan MacGregor blended scotch this is a great blend. Definitely worth giving it a go. The 40% abv is on the low end but tasty none the less. :)

Tonight attended another Whisky Society event at the same location as last night's event. Tonight's "Sip and Savor" event was 5 additional whiskies, but not a sit down dinner like last night.
Before the start of the event at the bar had a 23 year Balmenach (48.26 - “In a wild garden, late summer”).
The event consisted of; 11 year Highland Park (4.164 - "Muddy Tractor") 18 year Cragganmore (37.51 - "The saloon of a classic yacht") - First-fill Sherry butt. Outstanding dram! 12 year Springbank (27.103 - "Fishing boats in Campbeltown harbor") 26 year grain whisky from Caledonian (closed distillery - G3.3 - "Curious but good") 21 year Caol Ila (53.172 - "Unmistakable Islay")
After the event, had the chance to try a 23 year grain whisky from Strathclyde (G10.1 - "Thanksgiving dram") - Wow! I haven't had a lot of grain whiskies, but this was excellent.
Another great event with some great whisky and a great group of whisky lovers.

Just did a Rye tasting: Sazerac Rye, Bulleit Rye, and Thomas H. Handy 63.45% (2010 release).
I have always been a fan of the "Baby Saz" but after this tasting I realize how poorly it stands up to the Bulleit and the true "Sazerac" the Handy. I am just so taken in by the bottle every time . . . it is so cool! However, it is the least favorite of the night.
The 2010 Hand on the other hand is out of this world. Usually I sit around drinking it and don't really "put it up against" anything else. I don't contemplate it. I just enjoy it. Fair enough. Let me tell you: it absolutely shines when you dare to compare it to anything else! I am sad to only have 4 fingers left.
From now on this is reserved for "contemplation" only. It is too enjoyable and rare to be enjoyed casually.

Bourbon night here, Four Roses single barrel doing nicely. Big but smooth finish is doing well following the BBQ rib dinner....
