Aberlour A'bunadh Batch # 49, a delicious sample from @mscottydunc, followed by some Batch S Old Potrero 18th Century Style Rye Spirit. Robert, air has been very kind to this Batch S. I was quite lukewarm on it when your bottle was first opened last August, but these tastes from May in Horseshoe Valley, Ontario, and now the current sample, have been great. Thanks to both of you guys!

That is @Robert99 in the last post.

Round 2: 30 ml of Elmer T. Lee bourbon, followed by some Gosling's 151 Rum. Thanks to @numen for introducing me to the amazingly satisfying Goslings 151 Rum. Delicious, sippable, and, where I live, inexpensive. Goslings 151 is a best buy rum in my book. Very nice neat. Amazing with a drop or two of water.

It looks like the link is to a site Mario manages but I checked out the links to the products, sold through Amazon, and they all seem to be from different sellers. So while I leave it to individuals to decide for themselves whether the website is of any value, it's no different from any other blogger who promotes that which they like, with no accounting for taste...

But not advertising for personal gain. At least it doesn't look like it.

Kindof like if I were going on about how much I like Bladnoch and posting links to the site (which I would not do for the new site...

Just had a Nikki Coffey Malt and it was lovely. Almost had a bourbon corn sweetness to it. The a Balcones Baby Blue Corn which was raw and young, but had a really nice refined finish.

last night I poured myself a modest dram of Amrut Cask Strength, added a few drops of water, and while I allowed myself to sniff it I could not sip it until I finished all of my charting. After midnight it was too late to start... The nose, especially with the modified Ashok manoeuvre, was intoxicating on its own. So I poured it into a Master of Malt 30 cc sample bottle and went to bed.

Tonight, my work is done!

Even one day after pouring and adding water, this is one fine dram...

A couple of high-strength bourbons: Four Roses Single Barrel (Warehouse NN, Barrel No. 81-1F) at 50%, and Booker's Batch No. 2016-01E at 63.85%.

@talexander, high strength bourbon gems are FR1B and Booker's. Cant say I've had them in sequence, but I have vatted them together.

@Paddockjudge FR1B is maybe my favorite Bourbon amoung those easily available, so I never used it in vatting but I am curious about the result f your experiment. As for the Bookers in a vatting, I would probaly go for some Kentucky Vintage or maybe Basil Hayden. Whay I would really like to try though is to kix it with some Scotch and I could go in two directions: first the Glenmorangie original, the new batch; second, the wild side, the Laphroaig QC. I am not sure of this last one. There could be a clash, but something sure, it would hell of a ride.

Tonight I'm having the rather wonderful Pulteney 12. Sweet, kind of herbal and a nice evening dram

Tough day at work settled in with first dram of Port Charlotte CC01 really enjoyed it review soon. Followed with a whisky that never fails to blow away the blues Laphroaig 10. Had been laying off the peat while temperature was high but needed a fix to give me something to contemplate rather than work.

Cracked open my Springbank 10. I didn't get any smoke at all from it, which I was looking forward to, so I'm hoping that it'll develop with some air. Tasted rather good though. Very powerful

Does that mean the bottle reached its final destination? Along with the wee sample?

Sadly, one expression I will likely not get to try as it has been discontinued...

We visited some friends to deposit our children for a sleepover. The dad is a bourbon fan so I brought over a couple of bourbons for him to try.

Before dinner I introduced him to Four Roses Single Barrel, and after dinner we had a dram of the sweeter Old Grand Dad 114. With plenty of air, each time I have it I am amazed at how good a $20 bourbon can be.

Ardbeg 10 (16/11/2015) followed by Kilchoman Machir Bay 2012. The Machir Bay is a better bottle than is this particular batch of Ardbeg 10.

Still wrapping my head around this great thing that is ECBP... A lot of caramel on the palate after adding some water. Costs more than a Lagavulin 8 around here. And just as scarce. Decisions...

@Ol_Jas

@Victor , what is that Kilchoman doing better than that Ardbeg?

@Victor
Victor replied

@OlJas, the 2012 Machir Bay I am drinking has better quality flavours and much better balance than does this batch of Ardbeg Ten.

This particular batch of Ardbeg Ten has plenty of intensity, but is rough around the edges, a blunt instrument. It has a high quality nose, but the nose doesn't translate to the palate. The bitterness and sourness have almost no sweet balance, and there is heavier than desirable lemon citrus, for me. The peat here is like a sledgehammer in intensity, which is just fine by me...but it is just not delicious as some intense peat can be. I've had great Ardbeg Ten. The 16/11/2015 batch is not that for me. Now, since you like the big bitter, you can get that here. You will probably like this batch a bit more than I do.

@Victor
Victor replied

@chrisbator, my guess is that in a couple of years, maybe less, there will be no more ECBP. Don't underestimate how quickly you can go through a bottle of that 69.7% ABV juice. Fastest high ABV drinker in existence, in my book. Get 3 or 4 more of them, and the Lagavulin 8 too. 48 bottles in the cabinet? No reason to slow down til you get to 150!

And the great thing about 69.7% ABV? You can legally check it onto an airplane! (Can't do that with my bottles of Batch 6 70.1% ABV)

Not whisky!

Tonight I'm standing by my beloved barbeque slow-grilling a beef roast. I'm pairing this beautiful, locally and organically produced beef with some nice vintage red wine.
An Argentinian wine called Catena vintage 2013. Made exclusively from malbec grapes grown in the Argentinian Highlands this one is right up my alley. Big velvety arrival with herbal, earthy red berries and spice.
