Dalmore 12, two drams left in the bottle. Tasty. Not a Glenfarclas 30 though by any stretch of the imagination (@Appadurai - whisky envy).

Think it would have to be another minature as i struggled with it. markjedi1 has a review on here which is about how i found it taste wise. The reviews in general are a bit love or hate which sometimes makes me wonder about inconsistant bottling.

An Abunadh to see if it can cut through the cold I have. I have a whisky tasting tomorrow, hopefully I'm all clear by then.

Drinking a little Batch H Old Potrero 18th Century Style (Rye) Whiskey in order to report to @Ourobouros, presumptive owner of a few bottles from this batch.

Next: opening the new bottle of Redbreast 12 Cask Strength. Wow! This one meets for me all of the high expectations I and others have had of it.

had a Bruichladdich 'The Organic' last night at a restaurant (the only establishment that I have seen this bottle at in London, ON). Interesting concept...not too crazy about the execution. I really found that the malty and vanilla notes combined to create the infamous 'baby spit' (to be polite) note. This note can actually work in certain profiles, when properly balanced. Unfortunately, I ended up with too much of a flashback to holding my niece about a year ago (wow, she'll be 14 months old on Sunday!).

That's twice in a month that I have come across this note...it worked better in the Signatory bottling of Blair Athol (1998) that had a more of a 'farmyard' profile, where this note made more sense.

@Victor...Go OP 18th Century!! :) I've read rave reviews about the Redbreast 12 CS and, having just opened the standard 12 yo, will likely be adding the CS to my wishlist in the near future (say, after posting this message). I am excited to see that it has now appeared on the State of Michigan price list (thanks to @aboutchoice for pointing me to this excellent resource!). For anyone living/travelling through Michigan, the searchable price list is here (best to just type the distillery name in the 'Liquor Name' field):

dleg.state.mi.us/lcc_code/sr_lcc.asp/

If you see a store in the state advertising that they sell liquor for the 'state minimum', this is the list that they are referring to. If the whisky you are looking for is not on this list, it cannot be carried in the state (not sure if something ever gets 'de-listed' if a store would be able to still carry old stock until it runs out...I would like to think so).

@Pudge72 - I agree with you about the Bruichladdich Organic but it does somewhat grow on you. It is very easy to drink - too easy, both in the sense of it being very comfortable but also having little complexity. But I like it a bit more now than when I first tried it (at a tasting, and then I won a bottle in a raffle) - I won't be buying a bottle though...

Last evening's fare, a bourbon flight at a restaurant: Four Roses Small Batch, Willett Single Barrel "Orange Blossom Special", Willett Single Barrel "Bombyx Mori". A lovely experience. I really don't know why more restaurants do not do whisk(e)y flights: they promote product familiarity and sales.

@Victor ... no kidding about the whisky flights. Too often you get a bar that has a very limited selection of mediocre scotch and they claim they only carry a small variety that have name recognition because otherwise they wouldn't move product. I think putting whisky flights on the menu would remedy that problem and make things more interesting for the customer.

As for what I'm drinking now... I was introduced to a very interesting rum last night while out for dinner with friends: Dos Maderas P.X. 5+5. Now, I'm not a rum guy, but this stuff is very interesting. It's a mix of Barbados and Guyana rum, aged 5 years in bourbon casks in the Carribean, then shipped to Spain and aged an 5 additional years in sherry casks. It's delicious stuff.

So.. today, I went and bought a couple bottles because I heard the BC liquor stores have recently discontinued it from their order list. Just got back and am sipping some right now. I highly recommend it!

Old Pulteney 15 G&M - classic Whisky without sherry like the 17 OB - a very good alternative to the OB 17 year old. @victor, I have a nice winebar in my neighbourhood and they offer flights of different wines with weekly themes (Rhone, Tuscany, vintage etc...) and it would be great for other Restaurants or Bars to offer Whiskyflights... The Four Roses single barrel you had in your flight (and some batches of the FR small batch) is a very nice bourbon; it has a sub-zero image over here but the quality is very good and I really like it.

@maltster and @ Devo, somehow I think that the only good "play" we whisky lovers have to increase the number of restaurants and bars that offer whisky flights is for us to ask for them. Dramlette succeeded in 'encouraging' the restaurant in her place of employment to adopt a program of whisk(e)y flights which is highly successful (and expensive) now. What they payed attention to was being reminded that other restaurants had good attention-getting programs. Get one or two good ones going and then leverage their appeal into influencing more businesses to add additional whisky flights programs of their own. If we want to have whisky flight programs available to us, we need to ask for whisky flights programs. Of course, our asking will not carry much weight unless we are also willing to give some patronage to those establishments that do oblige us by making whisky flights available to us.

Ended the day with a nice Caol Ila 12, a wonderful dram, and followed it with a Ledaig 10. Love the Caol Ila. After a few sips, it grows more complex. Not so much with the Ledaig. Seemed to me, and maybe my taste buds were a bit numb by then, that it was all smoke and not much more. This was a bottle I just opened, so I'll have to continue to find flavors in it. Only saw one review on this site, and it was much more than I got from this whisky.
