Parker's Heritage Collection cognac finish, whilst watching Tiger thrash around in the Augusta undergrowth, 'tis indeed a wonderful world...

@smokeybarrels, I've got a miniature of Bruichladich Links-St. Andrew's Old Course 17th Hole. I think I'll drink it tomorrow for poor old Tiger. It's sad to see how far he has fallen. I caught some of the second round yesterday and it was painful to watch the guy who was once unbeatable bury himself deeper and deeper. You never know, though, he's come from behind before and smoked the field on Sunday.

@Victor. I guess we'll let you take Dramlette along, after all, she's a woman who loves whisk(e)y. What more could a guy ask for.

After my now-eight-year-old daughter's birthday party, full of screaming hopped-up-on-sugar kids, in dire need of the cask strength 60.5% ABV Ardbeg......

@BlueNote if tiger wins I will fly to Vancouver with my bottle of PHC and have a dram with you!

Picked up a bottle of Wisers Legacy and cracked it open tonight. For $50 CAD I have to say the way the prices are herein Vancouver BC this has to be one of the best value for money bottles out there. So I am with @victor and Jim Murray on this one when i say it is one ofne best Camadian Whiskeys around.

@RoganFox - I couldn't agree more, it's the best Canadian whisky I've had. Last night I cracked open a bottle of Canadian Club 20 Year Old, which was also very good, but nothing beats Legacy!

@talexander Have been considering dipping into Canadian Club so glad to hear the 20yr old is good.

I'm going back for another bot. of Glenmoraggie 'The LASANTA'! This is absolutely Fantastic; it opened well & has improved every day. It is one of those Whiskies that you hope will never end so, to that end, a shopping I will go.
Cheers!

@BlueNote My US$26 bottle of Big Peat was a freak find due to Washington State's looming privatization of liquor sales. The state run liquor stores are selling off stock before the law goes into effect on June 1st. Those in the know are predicting prices will spike shortly after then calm down. I'm predicting more variety and lower prices as the big chains move into the state. I've managed to stockpile a bit in anticipation.

Courtesy of Julian @ Wrights wine and whisky, Skipton, Yorkshire, I am currently enjoying a glass of Talisker 8 year old from circa 1960! Time to start saving for a bottle (£1000 approx.). Magnificent whisky, and an even more magnificent shop! (That plug has to be worth another glass, right?).www.flickr.com/photos/77148980@N07/6925579726/

Sherry session today: Glendronach 15 Revival, Glendronach 21 Parliament which is excellent and Aberlour a'bunadh #28 - very nice and almost like a desert . @talexander, I know exactely what you are talking about - I have two girls and went on a 10 hours trip by train because we missed our flight back home - I really earned my dram when I finally got them to bed...

@smokeybarrels, the old Taliskers are one of the true great whiskys - if you want similar quality for less money try to get your hands on the 10 pre-Classic Malt or any bottling of the 70's; the 10 in the green bottle which was only produced for 1 year and therefor is not easy to find is stellar! All these bottles are between 100 and 300€; another great Talisker woul be the 20 year old bourbon cask from 1982. This whisky is often overlooked because all the glory goes to it's 1981 Sherry cask brother but the 1982 bourbon cask is utterly desirable and can still be found for less than 200€.

@maltster thanks for the heads up. I wouldnt pay £1000 for a bottle but I would pay the kind of money you're talking about for the early 80s talisker expressions. The 8yo was sublime, a wonderful dram.

Eagle Rare 10, thinking of @smokeybarrels and his new bottle.
Also doing some experimental vattings with Alberta Premium, trying to cut the sweet fruity with something more astringent...still a work in progress. (maybe I should use a Dry Gin)...here it is: 50/50 Alberta Premium with Tanqueray No. 10 Gin gives something reminiscent of St. Germain Liqueur, with a bite.

On my patio on a nice spring evening finished off a pipe bowl of Peterson's Irish Flake (very strong in Vitamin N) in a quarter bent rusticated Bjarne while sipping on some Four Roses Single Barrel. Taking tomorrow off from work, the weekend starts tonight, think I will try some Ardbeg 10 next.

Went out to dinner last night with some friends I was able to try Lagavulin 16 year and Talisker 10 year pre dinner. In hindsight I should have reversed the order. I was hoping to try Caol ila post dinner but after the dinner and wine the taste buds were no longer up to the challenge.

Matterhorn by Karl marlantes in one hand and a Lagavulin 16 in the other. Both magnificent.

I'm enjoying a DT Cragganmore 18 single cask...absolutely brilliant stuff. Generally I'm not a fan of standard Cragganmore, but this is a cracker.

At the suggestion of @Victor, I'm the proud owner of a bot. of Wild Turkey Rye - I've got seven open bottles (not counting the small samples I keep), more than I can ever remember having open at any one time.
I decanted it of course and it was surprisingly heady: It looked like a ten+ yo. & the head stayed up for a while; If I didn't know differently, I'd say it was the head of a 12yo. Whiskey and it has a beautiful perfume!
It has the shortest cork I've ever seen in a Whiskey bottle and it has a good few holes in it; and it was completely saturated, but the Rye is OK! More than OK actually.
Thank you Victor!

@A'bunadhman, I've posted this one before, but even though I am not big on cocktails, here is my favourite home cocktail: big glass of ice, Diet Dr. Pepper soft drink, Wild Turkey 101 Rye, and muddle in the juice of a big slice of sweet orange. Fantastic! the prune/plum flavour of the Dr. Pepper goes perfectly with rye whiskey.

I went to a great Bar and had a Eaglerare 17 bourbon which was excellent, a Talisker North 57° and as a closing Dram a Cragganmore 29 years old - very nice flight with the eaglerare as the Dram of the evening as it was the perfect match for my macanudo maduro robusto cigar with it´s sweet and leather and vanilla tones.

I haven't been on in a while, but last night an HP 12 was had, to toast the safe arrival of a good friend (who was the source of the partial bottle of said HP 12 that now resides in my cabinet) who moved from Ontario to California (but not to Ontario, California) over the weekend. Te Bheag was a nice complimentary follow-up dram.
Last week included an Auchentoshan 12 to toast the meeting of myself, 'Victor', and 'dbk' in April, 2011, as a result of Connosr (thanks also to 'markjedi1' for the suggestion of the 'Toshan 12 that made the trip to this get-together!)

@Victor: I might be a little slow to embrace your Cocktail but I will give it a try - I haven't seen Dr. Peppers for many a moon.
Our non Whisky experience is simple and dare I say it "Yummy"!
2oz. Plymouth Gin (57.15%abv.) Navy Strength. 100 Proof (Imperial) in a tall glass with a couple of large ice cubes. ! slice of Lime (Preferable Tahitian). Fill with Indian Tonic: Standard for me, Diet for her!
This really does something for a stinking hot day.
Cheers
