Old Forester Signature 100 Proof, while baking a Pecan Bourban Carrot cake (which also contains about 1/2 a cup of the same).

Buffalo Trace 45% abv. in the 375ml. bottles and it's quite good! All the 750ml. are gone here in Aust.and the new shipment is 40% abv. No thanks, I'll stick with the 45% abv. 1/2 bottles and when they're finished, I don't know; maybe W/T Rye 101 which is not a bad 'drop'. It's a shame, really, the B/T 45% was a great every day east drinking Whiskey - I see some Beam products are down to 37% abv....come on!

@Sroberts86 Not in Oz. Crazy isn't it.. it's a bourbon liqueur!

@Sroberts86 It's REALLY sad. I actually double check every time I buy a bourbon over here to insure it's sitting at 40+%. I dread them ever doing it to single malts.

Last night, I had a glass of Parker's Heritage Collection 4th edition while having an enjoyable conversation with 'Victor' and 'Dramlette'. At some point soon, I will have to open the 5th edition that has been tempting me from the cabinet, since I bought it over five (!) months ago.

Can't 40% ABV is the legal minimum for Scottish Whisky. Mind I was told that about bourbon too, but perhaps putting liquer or such on the label gets around this. @SquidgyAsh

@Sroberts86, 40% ABV is the minimum legal ABV for bourbon WITHIN THE US. For some reason, it is diluted more than that for sale in Australia. I don't know of anywhere else where bourbon is sold below 40% ABV other than in Australia.

@Sroberts86 The label doesn't say "liqueur" at all; @Victor is correct, it's still called Bourbon in Australia and can legally be as low as 37% ABV. And why wouldn't the (especially large) bourbon makers take advantage of that to increase their profitability? Unfortunately the average bourbon drinker here (where Jim Beam at 37% can be the "norm") doesn't know any better. The craft bourbons and most self-respecting manufacturers still bottle at 40% ABV or better nonetheless, it's only a few of the larger brands that don't adhere to that "bottom line".

@Sroberts86. @Systemdown & @Victor even worse is if you look into last years whisky bible page 285, Cougar Bourbon which sits at 95, Australia only is awarded a 95! I was so frustrated when I saw that. A friend of mine who helps run a distillery here in Western Australia just did the first batch of bourbon in Australia (WA maybe? Not sure if it's Australia wide) and the first thing I said when they offered a bottle was what is the abv? I won't buy any bourbon under 40% for principles sake.
So frustrating!

Yesterday I had my first dram in a few weeks after a health imposed whisky exile. Celebrated with a Lagavulin 12 2010...a wonderful way to break the whisky fast. Tonight I might do a side by side with some longrow cv and a sample of longrow 14 from a friend.
Amazing how much I missed whisky in only a few weeks...

Old Parr. I had to try it because I have a goal of tasting every whisky in the world. Not half bad!

Just finishing the first bottle of whisky my wife bought me: Glenfiddich Snow Phoenix. The whisky that she fell in love with. Mind you I still have 2 more bottles of it, but it still feels like I'm saying good bye to a bitter mistreated old friend. Hopefully his brothers will be treated much better and experience much better things in life.

Spent two weeks on the vacations in Sicily. Two weeks without a wisky! Just great local wines. Kind of missed a dram or two already) On the way back I picked up 2 bottles in the Rome airport Duty Free - Highlang Park 1998 (DF only version) and Laphroaig Quarter Cask. Was sampling both tonight. HP is very good and QC is just plain yummy! Enjoyed both! God bless DF's 1 Litre bottles!
