Hi, @Cardinal. I was in Binny's in Orland Park just today (picked up Ardbeg Corryvreckan, Mortlach 15 yo, and Longrow CV -- and those are what I had tonight, to stay on topic here), and I'll be five years before I make it through everything I want in their inventory. The South Loop store scares me, if it's that much better. One visit and my wife may have grounds for divorce.
Just curious -- what were they asking for the Ardbeg Double Barrel? Probably more than I spent for my last car, I'm sure.

@WhiskyBee To stay on topic I was at the Orland Park store on Saturday and bought Ardbeg Galileo, I didn't buy anything at the south loop store but I will be going back to shop when I have more time and a wish list . Oh and the double barrel was in the rare and collectable room which was locked and I couldn't see the price.

Penderyn Madeira Single Malt. Over the eight months that the bottle has been opened it has developed a rather pleasant salty-briny taste.

@Cardinal...is this the Double Barrel that you are referring to?
I don't know anything about these, though the write-up seems to suggest that Binny's was involved in the cask selection process, and that there are multiple 'double barrel' bottlings. The price, apparently, is only US$65, but that could refer to a different 'double-barrel' offering, and not necessarily the Ardbeg-Glen Rothes pairing.
The more I read the text of the link, the more confused I get...you may want to call the Whisky Hotline (1-888-817-5898) at Binny's for more clarification.

@Pudge72 I was talking about the Ardbeg Double Barrel ardbeg.com/shop/ardbeg-double-barrel.html/ that goes for around 10-12 k in the US . I had never seen one in person before

My lovely Australian whisky, Limeburners M66! Last dram in the bottle. Really going to miss this guy.

Wife just came home from work in tears. Figured she needed something to help settle her so I crack the last dram of Limeburners M31 for her. She took half and I did (I never drink this early in the morning, bloody hell it's not even 9am yet), but I didnt want to leave it on the counter, so drank it was. The coconut and butterscotch have actually become the dominate flavors in the profile, but it's almost as lovely as when I first tasted it.
Really going to miss these last two bottles. Now to see if I can convince the wife to spend another $130 on Limeburners after we just bought a $300 bottle of Thomas H Handy. God I hate Aussie whisky prices...

@Cardinal...oooooh, that one would be just a wee bit more expensive now, wouldn't it? :O Can you purchase it for 1/2 the cost, if you promise to just take the bottles only? :)

Glenfiddich 18 at an unexpected bar in a college town, a review has been compiled (excellent whisky).

@EvaRees - we'll have this one at our next tasting. :-)
Tonight - I finished off the last of the 1992 Fino Sherry Cask Bruichladdich. Then I followed that up with a dram of the 5 year single sherry cask Kilchoman.

I had acquired a fifth of Glenfiddich 15 as I wished to see and taste what the sherry, bourbon, and new oak matured whiskies tasted like, review pending.

@GotOak91 The Glenfiddich 15 is fantastic. One of the key early malts I had which got me hooked in the world of whisky. I will need to pick up a bottle some time to see if I still rate it highly after having been spoiled by other malts.

@systemdown I've heard great reviews from the Glenfiddich 15 I had the 18 not too long ago which was my first single malt and quite delicious. I understand its hard to go back after having the excellent stuff I think its going to be hard to have a blend ever again now that I've entered the realm of single malts.

JW Black on the rocks , played golf with some friends and it was all they had at the course . But I can say it was a pleasant surprise, nice smoke and a good time with friends.

@GotOak91 - I enjoy both of those Glenfiddichs, but I admit I prefer the 15 - I find the oak of the 18 gets to me after a while. And there are some amazing blends out there - I find Ballantine's 17 year old to be better than many single malts I've had.

@talexander I haven't had Ballantines 17 Ill have to find that when I get the chance.

Port Ellen 30 yo 1982 Malts of Scotland 2012, cask strength from a sherry cask ...a really good Port Ellen with classic profile and lots of sweet fruits from the sherry and sweet peat and even with more than 56% a smooth dram.

Jura Prophecy. Much nicer now than my first impression about 4 months ago. Some sweetness is now coming through the fairly heavy peat and smoke and it has smoothed out and mellowed considerably. It's starting to remind me of Caol Ila 12 now. It has definitely benefitted from some oxidization. I would certainly buy it again.

I have many bottles, but there is just something special about the 25 year old HP.
Such a lovely whisky.
