I passed a pasture on the way home where the ranch hands were burning leaves and ditches. I couldn't stay away from the Laphroaig 10 after that.

Having a little tasting tonight. I'm starting off with Alberta Premium Dark Horse, then onto Isle of Arran Sherry Single Cask, and then finishing up with a blend I put together from some of my single malts as an experiment.

@PMessinger Quick question Is it as any better than the standard Crown Royal? Or a better question: Would you recommend this?

Just got done with my first Scotch Malt Whisky Society Tasting and made some new whisky friends! Even better I won some free whisky bottles due to whisky knowledge and being a loud American, much to the amusement of the aussies. And I may be able to get more whisky samples from the Society! SO MANY BEAUTIFUL WHISKIES!! Reviews to follow!

@GotOak91 Yes I recomend this as to weather this is better than the standard CR, its different than the standard but better is up to the drinker. I hate to be vague on this point it is just my not wanting to steer someone wrong. But I say try it see how you like it. Thanks for your question. :)

Scapa 16. First time I've had a dram since our Orkney Vertical (HP 12, HP 15, Scapa 16, HP 18, HP 21) on November 2. Amazed at the complexity, although perhaps it should have been bottled at 43%, as it feels very delicate and somewhat fragile at 40%.

SMWS 129.1, A Smoky, Peachy, Yoghurt of Loveliness. 1st-fill bourbon, 60.2%, 5yo. My second favorite Kilchoman of the 12 I've had (only the cask strength, pre-release version of Machir Bay was better). This one is ever so lightly flavored, wonderfully smoky, old leather sofas. Nice oily texture. Big smoke in the end.

@two-bit-cowboy - thanks for posting your comments on this one. I just received my bottle over the weekend and haven't opened it yet. I love Kilchoman, but was a little concerned with some of the comments in the tasting notes. In the end, I decided it was a Kilchoman and it was from SMWS, so i figured it was a pretty safe bet. Glad to hear that your like it. Thanks again!

Tonight, I'm having a dram of SMWS 127.13 (Bruichladdich Port Charlotte 8 year old) - "Garry the tank commander". Sweet, then salty, then smoke... Lots of smoke.

@bwmccoy Hope it helped. Eager to read your thoughts.

What a name on that 127.13! I got quite a fair amount of the 127.12, Shockingly Comfortable, at a whisky dinner at the Alta Club in Salt Lake City in February. I didn't record notes, but it scored high on my scale.

It's 30deg. here in Brisbane, Aust., so Whisky is out of the question (good Malt Whisky, anyway!). So have opted for a very lovely U.S. Beer from Rochester, NY. Dundee India Pale Ale 6.3% alc./vol. & a mighty fine Beer it is - Big, Old fashioned Hopsy flavor and so smooth. The aroma is reminiscent of how Beer smelt more than 50yrs. ago when I first tasted the devine beverage. Water, Malted Barley, Yeast, Hops + Skill.

Bravo!

Cheers!

Started out the Christmas dinner season last night with a couple of very special guests, I introduced them to the wonderful world of whisky, they are both Wine aficionados. I started the Misses out with a dram of Aberlour a'bunadh batch 30 with water she enjoyed it very much(said it made the tip of her tongue dance).

I then opened my bottle of Ardbeg Corryvreckan and passed it around for everyone to have a smell at first. Wow this is one of a few bottles I really enjoyed freshly opened, simply amazing. I laughed a bit when the misses said that this one made the back of her tongue dance, the mister had a sniff and a smiled while his eyes rolled back. Afterwards she said she never realized how similar wine was to whisky.

I must place my order for another bottle of Ardbeg Corryvreckan to have in reserve.
