Willett 7 yr single barrel with one cube , enjoying a drink with my dad .

@cpstecroix: 'Have not tasted this but you make it sound delicious! I have tried a couple of older Springbanks and, without exception, they have been sensational; most notable a 57.1% bottled for Samoroli in the mid 80's which was 'doled' out in small quantities by a good friend.
Enjoy!

Since I'm writing a review of the Balvenie 17 yo DoubleWood, I thought I'd make it a Balvenie night. 12 yo DoubleWood, 14 yo Caribbean Cask, 15 yo Single Barrel, and the 17 yo. I'd be glad to add some Tun 1401 to the mix, if anyone has any free samples to spare...;)

For Burns Night it was Isle of Arran 'Robert Burns Malt' followed by the remains of my Laphroaig QC over a game of Arkham Horror.

@WhiskyBee Outta curiosity - do you, or anyone else know if The Balvenie is continuing with their 12 yr Signature?
I cut my "whisky teeth" several years ago on the 10 yr Founders Reserve, and found the Signature as a solid replacement...I've had batch #3, and #4, but I'm not aware if a batch #5 exists?

Cragganmore 12(nice speysider) and Glenfarclas 15(dark fruit and a nice honey-orange mix).

@FMichael - good question. Best evidence I've seen suggests that yes, it's been discontinued, or at least slowly phased out. It's disappeared from some of the big online retailers (such as Binny's), and Balvenie's website sends mixed messages. It's no longer listed among their core range, yet neither does it appear on their "Archives" page of retired expressions, and they still offer it for sale. If they haven't retired it, they sure are sweeping it under the rug.

Last night attend the Scotch Malt Whisky Society of America "Launch Party" at El Gaucho restaurant in Seattle. This is the first of 3 bars in America that will carry bottles of Society whisky as part of their overall Scotch selection. (El Gaucho plans to have 8 different bottles available to purchase by the dram.) At the Launch Party, had a 21 year Bladnoch (50.49 - "Pudding in a glass"), an 11 year Highland Park (4.153 - "Kerosene delight"), a 10 year Aultmore (73.53 - "Springtime freshness; spicy warmth") and an 11 year old Ardbeg (33.114 - "Sweet versus savoury"). All were very good. In order of preference, the Ardbeg, followed by the Aultmore, then the Bladnoch and finally Highland Park. The Bladnoch had the most character of any Bladnoch that I have previously tasted and the Aultmore was big and explosive. Those 2 were the most surprising of the night.
After the event, went to a friends house and he generously poured the following; 1993 GelnDronach that my friend had filled the bottle himself at the distillery. Amazing stuff! 20 year Cardhu (SMWS 106.17 - “Fresh and Invigorating” Nov. 1984). 18 year Dailuaine (SMWS 41.32 - 1986). Mortlach 16. Dalmore 1263 King Alexander III. 17 year Glen Grant (SMWS 9.31). 17 year Caperdonich (SMWS 38.21 - "Manuka honey on a razor strap" May 1994). 14 year GlenDronach. 10 year Jura (Signatory bottling). 15 year Mortlach (SMWS 76.68). 21 year Mortlach (SMWS 76.84 - "Fiesty and zesty" Aug. 1989 - first fill sherry butt). 21 year Clynelish (SMWS 26.39 - "A Surprising Explosion" May 1983). Finally, a 9 year Laphroaig (SMWS 29.88 - "What a Magnificient and Handsome Nose" Feb. 2001 - Refill sherry butt).
Thanks to the Society and especially my friend, an outstanding Robert Burns night to say the least.

@WhiskyBee I just picked up a sample from here: whiskysamples.flyingcart.com/index.php/…=
Haven't tried it yet, but very excited to! Cheers, enjoy your Balvenie tasting! (Note: not affiliated with that site, I just order from there fairly often)

@FMichael The 12yo Signature is still available in STL, MO. Batch 5 is in a few of the local shops. Been considering snatching one up.

I've been nursing a bottle of 1959 Old Forester Bottled in Bond for quite some time now; moving the contents to smaller bottles and I consumed. Well, the current bottle is down to it's last pour after tonight. May have to just kill it off.

On the way home from work I needed to pick up some groceries...The store I went to has a decent selection of single malts; was a toss-up between the Bruichladdich 10 yr, and the Jura 10 yr...I chose the Jura 10 yr based upon the info provided on the back of the packaging.
I must say - this Jura 10 yr is a very nice easy to drink whisky...Lovely stuff!

I've just been enjoying a couple of 19 Year Old Single Cask bottlings from Master of Malt, both 19 years old, both matured in hogsheads but noticeably different from each other. I loved the experience of both but for me the richer meatier dram did it for me. You can see what I though on my blog here: whisky-discovery.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/…

Trying the Chivas 18 again after 1 month open. Was not fond of it much on first opening, but I had a sneaky dram the other week and noticed a lot of improvement, so just following up with a "proper" tasting to document the change.

@feeinglis91 Please quit spamming the forum discussions with this request. It's irritating and unlike prior requests from other people to get our feelings, thoughts, etc about whisky is completely impersonal.

I had a pleasant little experiment last night. Mixed equal parts Laphroaig Triple Wood and Ardbeg Alligator. Results - Fantastic.
