@MadSingleMalt thanks for that - you're doing a good job of convincing me to go back and get it. Yeah, I understand they're not directly comparable - just similar parentage I guess.

@Hewie , great! I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Almost every Kilkerran review you ever see anywhere is positive, and it seems just about unanimous that WIP #7 Bourbon CS was the pinnacle of their releases so far. And I agree. Enjoy!

@MadSingleMalt I'm glad I picked up a WIP #7 Bourbon CS while I could then. I also got a WIP 5 Bourbon Wood and the 12 year old.

@Nozinan How did you do with your Neat glass. I have one, it is very good to hold the water I may add to a whisky. As for drinking, it is the worst glass I ever try. It may be good for the heavy drinker because I think it is impossible to get little sip out of it and the concept of the glass is to get large sip that will present itself very large on the palate. As for sniffing out of it, I didn't get any low notes and the highnotes were weak. Well, it is not that expensive so it's a fun experience.

@Robert99 I had to put that on hold because the NDP leadership was decided on the first ballot. Since then I've been busy. Maybe this weekend when my brother in law is in from Calgary.

I'm not drinking Bruichladdich Classic Scottisch Barley. But I'm having fun to see how detailled the vatting information is on theire site. Just try some bottle codes 16/065 or 16/080 or 16/003.

Nice to see how different the casks are that are put in the different batches to create a simmular taste profile.

@DutchGaelisch Wow! I like Connosr because of that kind of input. I love Bruichladdich because they are not afraid to come forward with that kind of input. Thanks!

Now, can you tell us the differences you have noticed between these three batches?

@DutchGaelisch

@Robert99 Unfortunately I haven't tasted these vattings. I hope I will someday! I sourced the codes by using Google Search.

The different amount of French wine casks stand out to me. Some batches even have white wine cask in them others have none? Same goes for the age. Some batches have 8 to 11 yo casks, others have 7 to 10 yo casks. Creating a good whisky is hard work and craftsmanship.........

@DutchGaelisch , @Robert99 : There's been a few discussion on the Reddit scotch board where folks share tasting notes along with the recipes of their batches from the Bruichladdich site. Fun stuff. I've always been impressed by the number of unusual casks that turn out to be in the mix.

@MadSingleMalt I have not tried them in a side by side comparison.

I've tried the Bourbon Wood WIP #5 and the 12 yo on different dates.

They'll feature as reviews in the future

Kilkerran 12 yr 2017 release just landed, for those mentioning they'd like to stockpile this.

6 years ago 0

@MadSingleMalt

@dougwatts , you're in Manchester—and the Kilkerran 12 is just recently started hitting shelves around you?

Weird. It's been here on American shelves for about a year now. Maybe you're seeing a re-stock?

6 years ago 0

@MadSingleMalt

@Frost , I've haven't (yet!) does side-by-sides with any Kilkerrans, but in my memory, that #5 Bourbon and the 12-year-old are very similar.

I'm looking forward to your official reviews!

@MadSingleMalt - no - the 12 year old 46% has been available here for a long time here. I bought a couple of bottles in September last year. I think it has been unavailable for a while though and now it is back. Cadenheads and Whisky Barrel are both listing it as the "new 2017 batch" at the moment.

@MadSingleMalt

@dougwatts , oh yeah—the Springbank guys make Kilkerran on an annual basis, right? I think I saw once that they make Springbank for nine months each year, Longrow for one month, Hazelburn for one month, and then Kilkerran over at Glengyle for one month each year. So it makes sense that the ultimate batches of mature whisky would come out annually too.

They're not labeled like that, though—are they? It'd be fun if they were.

After an apple fritter, I am drinkinga a dram of Glenfiddich 15 yo DE. The sweetness and the sherry complete well the apple of my dessert.

@Robert99 is that the CS version?

And would that not fit under what you ARE drinking?

@Nozinan I should get my glasses, I thought I was on the What are you drinking thread. With a 51% ABV, this is not a CS but it is interesting. I am paying a visit to this bottle for the first time in close to two years. It is still good.

@BlueNote it is 46% again. Packaging looks identical to last year's release to me.

Wiser's Legacy or a H2H of 2 batches of Stagg Jr.

I had big plans for tonight, maybe even type up a review. But I linked my blackberry to my hospital email account (it's new...before our programme had its own domain) and likely because of some security protocols I found my device locked, even though I was putting in what I thought was the right password.

With a Blackberry if you get the password wrong 10 times it wipes your device but for some reason the count froze at 6/10. I tried a soft reset. You can't take the battery out. It wouldn't link to my desktop. Hundreds of photos (some backed up), lists, information, contacts... I thought I was going to lose them all. I even looked up what my options were for new phones.

I made one final attempt to search the web and came up with a thread where someone had a similar problem and one of the replies provided a non-intuitive solution. It worked to unfreeze the count but my PW still didn't work. I tried a password that I had originally chosen for the partition to my work part of the device (for some reason I had to do that) even though I had changed it to my device password, and on 9/10 it worked. I then reset the password to the right one and breathed a sigh of relief.

But I'm way to upset and emotionally drained to enjoy any whisky. And tomorrow night we're at a Diwali party and Sunday night I'm on call.

So, if anyone is out there and you have some Wiser's Legacy, Stagg Jr or anything GOOD, please enjoy some on my behalf this weekend to celebrate my near miss...

Cheers!

Caol Ila. G&M 10 YO CS. My wife has a meeting of the school budget committee. One of the members likes scotch (I've shared with him before). and he likes peat. I gave him a choice between this, Lag 12 and Laphroaig 10 CS.... he picked this and likes it.

I'm hearing all the complaints around the Sherry casks not being real sherry casks and I decide to do my part. So tonight I am drinkingsome Alvear 1927 Solera Pedro Ximénez sherry. This is the last pour of a 375 ml bottle and it is all about prune and dattes. I am asking all Connosr members, when was the last time you had a glass of sherry?

@Robert99, we finished off our recent bottle of Hartley & Gibson's Oloroso Sherry a few months ago. I just replaced it with a new bottle a few days ago, and also bought one for my sister. I like the Oloroso Sherry, and it is great with mushrooms, soups, etc. I anticipate drinking some more sherry soon, and also experimenting with vatting it with "meh" malts .

Robert99 replied

@Victor I know you are doing your share to help us having some whisky with real sherry finish. As for myself I need to buy an Oloroso next time I go to the SAQ since I have another Pedro Ximenez opened but not as good as the Alvear.

I'd love to be trying my bottle of Kilkerran 12 which has just been delivered - but it seems pointless with the head cold which has kept me home from work the last two days. When I can smell and taste again........

I’m not drinking anything right now. I took Monday and Tuesday off work and I’m still not at 100%. I’ve got a good haul of samples from @Nozinan waiting for me, as well as an unopened bottle of Uigeadail just waiting....
