Suntory ‘Old’ is a blend produced by Suntory, a major Japanese brewing and distilling company group. Production was first announced in 1940 but sales were then postponed due to war, and as a consequence ‘Old’ was released only in 1950. It has been a part of Suntory’s offering of blended whiskies ever since.

The nose is light and sweet with honey, caramel, vanilla and hints of milk chocolate.

The palate is light and slightly peppery. Honey and caramel are back, together with a grainy touch.

The finish is of medium length and sweet with fudge and vanilla. Towards the end it gets dry and spicy.

This is a good, old-fashioned blend. There is nothing special about this, except from the fact that it is well balanced and easy drinkable. I suppose this is why it is still being produced after all these years.

@Pierre_W thanks for the review. I'm a really big fan of this blend. For the price point it's great value and goes down very easy.

I've not located it outside of Japan or Taiwan. Where did you find it?

Thanks, @Frost. I like this one, too - just plain good stuff. I have not seen this outside of Japan, and I picked up my bottle when I was last in Japan in May.
