Barely three months ago I tried the Distillers Edition from 2007, bottled in 2017. But I recently presented this version from 2009, bottled in 2019, during my online tasting WhisQy (Whisky in Quarantine) Edition #5: Talisker Treats. As always, the Talisker Distillers Edition is double matured on Amoroso sherry casks.
On the nose it is very similar to the one from two years ago. Kudos to the Master Blender, for this is craftmanship. Citrus, orangettes, barbecue sauce, walnuts, sea salt, dark honey… the works. I know I am repeating myself, but this nose is outstanding.
It is creamy on the palate and offers walnuts, soya sauce, blood oranges and some chewing tobacco. White pepper and lots of sea salt are nicely countered by sweet notes of the amoroso sherry, which manifests itself as chewing tobacco and honey. Nicely brackish though. Sturdy fellow.
In the finish, the smoke makes itself noticeable, followed by candied oranges and some pepper. Warming.
The nuances between the different Distillers Editions are small, but there. Top whisky for a very affordable price. I have just ordered my 2020 edition.
