If I'm not mistaken, I was able to taste it in preview at the Spirits in the Sky whisky festival in Brussels last November. Chris Hayes then treated us to a dram of an umarked bottle (because the whiskey had not yet been released). I thought it was very good at the time, so assume that it will be a very pleasant reunion with this 13-year-old single grain from Teeling that got a finish on red wine casks from Bordeaux.

Although the DNA of the Teeling single grain is unmistakable, this creamy nose is dominated by red fruit in a very pleasant way. It is a stew of strawberries, red berries and raspberries with a few krieks (not to be confused with cherries) in the mix. In addition, a clear touch of nougat with hazelnuts (delicious!), almond paste and peppernuts. Even something of speculaas and milk chocolate. I think this is very, very tasty!

Good body, indeed. Nice and creamy. The spices now speak first – think cinnamon and chili pepper, but also some nutmeg, paprika and licorice – followed by vanilla and more of that juicy red fruit. Manuka honey and coconut milk. Perfectly seasoned and nice and intense.

The finish is long, very spicy but still sweet until the end.

A winner. Thank you, Benny. It never ceases to amaze me that you have all these goodies from Teeling in da house (and it makes me very happy that you want to share it with me).
