The name Teeling may ring a bell. After all, the company is led by Jack Teeling, son of John, the former owner of the Cooley distillery (that was sold to Beam Inc in 2012). This Teeling Irish is a blend with a high malt content and an extra maturation on rum casks from Flor de Cana in Nicaragua.
The rum finish immediately offers a spicy nose with loads of fruit. Berries, cherries, oranges and some apple cake. In the spice department, I am reminded of cloves mixed with a huge dollop of vanilla. Wonderfully sweet.
It is full on the palate. Creamy almost. Again very fruity and spicy – more than on the nose. Allspice and cinnamon join the vanilla. The fruit translates into more yellow and orange variants like peach and oranges, but also apricots.
The surprisingly long finish lingers and shows a trace of woodsmoke.
Great blend with a nice rum twist. Between 25 and 30 EUR.
