@Wodha Quite right, it just another reason to join your friends in an evening of tasting and debate the pro's and cons of your best dram.

@IainVH I agree with all of those that says that tasting is subjective and everyone should try everything to have their own opinion. For me, the only malt that I have a problem with. Note that I still drink it occasionally when a friend offers me a drink, so it is not disgusting. It is the Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban. The port leaves a taste of a mix of grapes, sugar and rubber that I am not a fan of. I would never buy a bottle or a dram in a bar, but when it is free, it is still better than water !

I'd definitely recommend trying all the whiskies that people suggest you should avoid. However, as Loch Dhu is pricy you could always go for the much cheaper Cu Dhub - its spiritual successor. It's just as bad, if not worse...

I know i've said this before, but I agree with @cowfish here in that you should try everything people have said not to try, an example in differing tastes is right here, as he states "you could always go for the much cheaper Cu Dhub - its spiritual successor. It's just as bad, if not worse.." Now i actually quite enjoyed the Cu Dhub, the unique black whisky! Not a fantastic dram by any means, but i enjoyed the experience!

I found Smokehead to be awful and I'm a fan of over the top Islays. I got a bottle during a scotch party that I throw and now I just pour drams for the people don't care for. I also found Bushmills to be difficult to drink straight.

I'm making an offer to personally dispose of all unwanted whiskies. Contact me for my shipping address. I am particularly experienced at proper disposal of Ardbeg, Laphroaig, Lagavulin, Smokehead and those other foul Islay single malts. No need to fret any longer! I offer this service to every member of Connosr.

@Wodha, it's very generous of you to step up to the plate like this ... someone has to do it. You're a member's member! :) And it's good to know that bad whisky can be recycled or repurposed !

Tried an Octomore yesterday, not sure but I think it was the Octomore 3. What a disapointment. Primary taste was alcohol. Then came a 2 second burst of peat. Then came 3 seconds of Iodine. Then its gone. No nose to speak of, and a can of coke has a longer finish. Somehow, despite its massive PPM count it manages to have less peat flavour than any offering I have tried from Ardbeg, Lagavulin, or Laphroaig. Honestly, if it were $15 a bottle instead of $150 I still wouldnt bother.
